Another week, another tease beyond expectations for The Matrix: Resurrections. There’s one more addition to the Venom-Matrix theories.
Jessica Henwick, who plays the mysterious “ally” Bugs, revealed she and Tom Hardy are in the background in some scenes. However, she isn’t sure if the scene made it to the final cut.
The potential cameo came about thanks to both Venom 2 and Matrix being filmed simultaneously, around the same place in San Francisco.
Read her exact words to Den of Geek below:
We were filming in San Francisco at the same time as Venom 2, and I met Tom Hardy, And so, Tom Hardy and I are running in the background of one of the scenes. And I’m so curious to see whether it made the cut.
While it may mean Hardy might have a small role, it opens huge possibilities for Neo/Thomas Anderson from The Matrix.
Reeves has been caught up in rumors of making his MCU debut. He even addressed the rumor a few weeks ago, saying he would be “honored” to be a part of it.
With Tom Hardy officially joining the MCU with Venom 2 and the potential cameo in The Matrix, imagination does run wild for any ardent fan.
It won’t be much of a surprise if the cameo happens, as Venom fans already received one during the sequel. In one of the scenes of Venom 2, helicopters from The Matrix could be easily seen hovering around in the sky, making fans love the slip-up.
A reverse cameo appearance then doesn’t seem off the table. There’s another possibility of Keanu Reeves (or Neo) joining the MCU.
To burst some bubbles, unfortunately, the way Henwick described it, the scene mostly seems like it was just a funny coincidence. She shared that she would visit the sets to watch the two iconic actors – Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss – working their charms and bringing the two-decade-old characters to life.
Whether Hardy does make a cameo or not will be revealed soon in theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
