Succession Season 4 Episode 7: Gojo Shocker & Future Setup Explained

In the show’s fourth and final season, GoJo becomes a significant player in the narrative and drastically changes the landscape for Kendall Roy, who is tasked with running the company. As the tug of war between Waystar RoyCo and GoJo escalates in the fourth season, viewers must be curious to learn more about GoJo and its services.

Succession season 4 has been a constant conflict between the Roys and Lukas Matsson over the GoJo deal, and Lukas Matsson may have finally lost in Succession season 4, episode 7.

GoJo’s acquisition of Waystar Royco has been one of the biggest storylines in Succession so far.

Although the GoJo deal seemed imminent, things have just been flipped on their head. Succession season 4, episode 7 reveals a shocking new detail about Lukas Matsson and GoJo that will change the show’s future forever.

One of the biggest reveals in Succession season 4, episode 7, is that Lukas Matsson has been inflating GoJo’s subscriber numbers. The biggest reason GoJo is so valuable in Succession Season 4 is its immense growth, with the up-and-coming business being one of the hottest brands in the media market.

However, Kendall and Roman get an employee named Ebba to spill, with her explaining GoJo’s scheme. As it turns out, GoJo has been knowingly overstating its subscriber numbers in India, massively inflating its growth. Now that the Roys know about this, the future of the GoJo deal is on pretty shaky ground.

This controversy almost certainly means Lukas Matsson finally lost in Succession Season 4. As Shiv points out, fraud on the scale of GoJo’s is grounds for Waystar Royco to pull out of the deal. That’s precisely what Kendall and Roman have been looking to do since becoming Waystar Royco’s co-CEOs.

Matsson is already in hot water due to the harassment allegations that are starting to come to the surface as well as Matsson’s Holocaust Tweet, and this could be the tipping point that ruins him. Fraud like this could easily take down Lukas Matsson, but it could also take down GoJo.

1. What implications will Ebba’s turn against Matsson have?

Previous episodes of Succession have introduced Ebba, GoJo’s Head of Communications, and season 4, episode 7, proves how important she might be. While in Sweden, Lukas Matsson confessed to Shiv that he had acted creepy with Ebba.

Matsson has sent her a pint of blood in the mail and clumps of his hair, things that could get him in trouble if they became public. Kendall and Roman find out about this incident in Succession season 4, episode 7, giving them a bit of leverage over Matsson. Still, their conversation with Ebba proves that more bad news is coming Matsson’s way.

Ebba has fully turned against Lukas Matsson in Succession season 4, episode 7, having become fed up with his jokes and harassment. Although Ebba is still an employee at GoJo, she knows she’ll be let go soon, meaning she has nothing to lose.

Because of this, she tells Kendall and Roman about GoJo’s inflated growth numbers, but that’s only the start. Ebba’s knowledge of Matsson’s controversies and schemes makes her a powerful asset that can take Matsson and GoJo down. Although Ebba could keep quiet, season 4, episode 7 makes that unlikely.

2.What is Kendal’s Big Move?

In the episode’s final act, Kendall’s plan to force Matsson out of the deal reaches a new peak. He learns about the discrepancies in GoJo’s subscriber count, especially in the Indian Market.

Shiv confronts Matsson and asks him the truth about the faulty subscriber count. Matsson admits to the numbers being defective due to an error in the calculation matrix. However, Matsson explains the situation and tries to convince Shiv that the mistake is insignificant.

When Shiv pressures Matsson, he reveals that the numbers in India are almost twice the actual numbers. Nonetheless, Matsson is confident GoJo can rapidly increase its subscribers in India by the next quarter and fix the issue.

Consequently, Kendall is about to get his wish as he will stop the sale and continue running the company his father built. However, Kendall is not satisfied with the turn of events and wants to make a more extensive play to cement his status as the capable leader he is proving himself to be.

In the episode’s final moments, Kendall has a private conversation with Frank. He explains the GoJo subscriber number situation to Frank and reveals that the deal will soon collapse. However, Kendall’s big move is that he wants to turn the tables on Matsson and purchase GoJo from the Swedish tech giant.

After GoJo’s wrong numbers are revealed, the company’s stock price will nosedive, making it easy for Waystar to acquire GoJo. However, Kendall also hopes that developing Waystar will help him secure the CEO position. Thus, the episode ends excitingly, with Kendall plotting to move his siblings out of their father’s empire.

Although it seems like a stretch, it is possible that Waystar Royco could buy GoJo, adding a surprising twist to the end of Succession season 4.
