Kazuya and Chizuru have been “on-and-off” in their rental relationship. But will they ever get together for real?
You’ve all seen their dynamic since the series began: Kazuya cowers and hesitates to tell Chizuru his real feelings; meanwhile, Chizuru constantly dodges and denies any form of romance involved with her client.
At some point, this “Will they? Won’t they?” tactic gets old and tiring. And even more so in Rent-A-Girlfriend when viewers know that the romantic chemistry between the characters borders between “fake” and “unreal”.
But in the recent chapters of the “The Girlfriend and Paradise” arc, there’s been some huge development.
And though it might not be the results that many fans desire, there’s still some progress on Kazuya’s romantic pursuit towards Chizuru.
Did Kazuya Finally Confess To Chizuru?
Kazuya almost confessed to Chizuru in Chapter 213 of Rent-A-Girlfriend. He was this close to spilling the beans and revealing all his heart’s desires to her; that is until Mami interrupted Chizuru via text message.
It’s a heartbreaking and irritating moment. Just when fans thought that Kazuya finally gathered his courage to confess to the girl of his dreams, Mami comes texting in and forces Chizuru to act: if Chizuru can’t confess the whole truth that she’s just Kazuya’s rental girlfriend to Grandma Nagomi (Kazuya’s grandma), Mami will do all the confessing for her.
Kazuya’s confession may have been interrupted, but it was interrupted for good reasons as Chizuru just can’t let Mami have her way.
After all, if Kazuya’s too distracted, then who will stop Mami? Chizuru’s got no one to rely on but herself.
Did Chizuru Accept Kazuya’s Romantic Proposal?
Chizuru did not accept Kazuya’s romantic proposal. Rather than saying “No.” to him, she simply says “Sorry.”
She can’t answer him right now because she has to stop Mami from revealing everything to Grandma Nagomi. And even if she faces him, she’ll deny his romantic feelings anyway as she has always used to.
Fans were really rooting for Kazuya in the previous chapter — Chapter 212 — when he finally acquired a solid resolution to convey to her his real romantic feelings.
But after Chizuru left him by the church courtyard on his own, Kazuya just looked so lost, pitiful, and exhausted.
His face says it all. Despite the efforts he went through to make Chizuru’s movie so she can show its 10-minute footage to her grandma (Grandma Sayuri), it still feels as if she’s a lost cause to him.
As Kazuya’s gaze wanders around the church garden, he contemplates his loss, “If today’s the right time to give up on Chizuru, then it shall come to pass. If I’m not really the one for her, then so it shall be.”
However, unlike previous confessions, Kazuya felt some sort of tranquility. Chizuru might have dejected him yet again, and in a nearby church in the resort spa no less.
But Kazuya’s face looks calm; it’s as if he has this glowing Buddhist aura surrounding him telling him everything will be alright.
Will Kazuya Still End Up With Chizuru?
Kazuya and Chizuru are destined to be with one another. So, even if Kazuya’s confession at the nearby church failed, there’s still another way.
But it’s up to the author of Rent-A-Girlfriend (Reiji Miyajima) how he’ll make Kazuya and Chizuru date for real; he’s like the “god” of this manga after all.
For them to officially become a couple, Chizuru and Kazuya are going to face many challenges.
First, they need to overcome Mami as she’s scheming to obliterate their relationship immediately. After overcoming Mami, Chizuru must come clean to Kazuya’s family.
Not all the blame lies to Kazuya as Mami claimed. Both Kazuya and Chizuru are at fault. Their rental relationship wouldn’t have come to this point if they’d just come clean in the beginning.
But, now that they’re here, they need to face the truth together. Kazuya will likely get disowned once his family knows the truth. Moreover, the family will have lost the trust that they gave to Chizuru.
This mess that Chizuru and Kazuya are facing is fear-provoking and intimidating. It’s chaotic, but it’s a mess that the two must face head-on.
If they overcome this big hurdle, they can find some peace within themselves. After all, telling Kazuya’s family the truth is the beginning of their newfound freedom as an official couple.
No lies will hold them down nor bar their love for one another. And Mami won’t be there anymore to destroy their relationship.
It’s just going to be the two of them like at the beginning of the series. But this time, they will have learned their lessons to trust themselves and trust each other in maintaining a real romantic relationship.
