The internet is sure that director James Mangold has revealed an important detail about the upcoming Indiana Jones film. The fifth Indian Jones movie had been stuck in development hell for a long time and was delayed on multiple occasions. Steven Spielberg was supposed to return to direct the movie, but he stepped back from the position in 2020 and James Mangold replaced him. Since then, details have been scarce and the fans were eager with anticipation.
But a recent tweet from Mangold has Twitter buzzing with theories and speculation. The director mentioned that he is mentally living in the 60s since all the films he is currently working on are set at that time. Considering that it is one of the biggest movies he is working on, this has led many to believe that the director was referring to the timeline of Indiana Jones 5.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released in 2008 and the story was set in 1957. In the real world, nearly thirteen years have passed since then and a jump in the movie timeline will be a perfect solution to accommodate the time that has passed. Many are thinking that Indiana Jones 5 will be set in the late 60s and will have something to do with humankind’s race to land on the moon.
A time jump will also be a great way to end the franchise. There have been talks that James Mangold was brought on board to give Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones a proper farewell, much like the director had given Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan. Fans have been waiting to see what happens to the archaeologist in the fedora at the end of all his adventures- will the movies end in his death, or will he pass the baton on to someone else?
Producer Frank Marshall’s words- “There will only be one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford” and Wolverine’s fate in Logan does not bode well for Indy!
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to hit theatres in the summer of 2022.
What do you think? Should Indiana Jones be killed off or should another actor take over the role from Harrison Ford?
