Dickinson Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
Emily is happy to hear from Higginson again, who tells her he’d like to see her the next time she’s in Boston. While she’s reading the letter, Vinnie comes in and asks her to go and fetch water. Emily travels through the orchard and runs into Sue. The two get into an argument. Emily feels that it was unfair of Sue to get upset with her for writing to another person about her poetry, especially since she hasn’t had any time for her since she had the baby.
Sue gets upset with Emily for only thinking about her poetry and not making more time for her. Sue then addresses the fact that the two can’t be together as a real couple and that it’s agonizing for her to live like this. Emily leaves the orchard and finds Vinnie crying in a gazebo.
While the two are talking about how difficult life in the present is, the structure gets hit by lightning and they get transported to the future.
They land on May 1, 1955, and run into Sylvia Plath, who is a college senior at the time. Plath assumes they’re dressed the way they are because of a college festival and helps them sneak into the Dickinson house. Emily is happy to hear that she was considered a great poet of her time.
The conversation becomes tense when Plath starts telling them that Emily lived her entire life loveless and alone. She even brings up the speculation about her sexuality. Vinnie later asks her if it’s true and Emily admits that she’s in love with Sue. Meanwhile, in the present, Henry implores Higginson to procure guns for the regiment.
Higginson is too scared to take any direct action in support of this because of a fear of backlash. Instead, he indirectly tells Henry how they can intercept a new shipment of guns and steal it for themselves. Emily and Vinnie “return from the future” only to be given the terrible news that Frazer Stern was killed in battle.
About Dickinson
Dickinson is an Apple TV+ comedy series based on the life of American poet Emily Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886). Dickinson was one of the most important figures in American poetry who remained little-known during her lifetime. Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, into a prominent family with strong ties to its community.
The Apple TV comedy takes viewers into the world of Emily, audaciously exploring the constraints of the 19th Century society, its gender norms, and familial responsibilities. Dickinson is Emily’s coming-of-age story – one woman’s fight to get her voice heard.
Embarrassed by her own parents and shunned from society, Dickinson will stop at nothing to rebel against her strict background and make her voice heard through the magic of poetry.
