Chapter 279 of Diamond no Ace Act II, titled “Be Here Now,” was the manga’s latest installment.
Kuramochi’s performance is on a high swing, and Inajitsu’s Mei gets triggered thinking about how Seidou players assume that they’re his equals.
He holds on and finally hits to get on base. Kominato is the second in the lineup, and he, too, faces the pitcher with boldness.
The game continues, and the runner is now in scoring position on second with zero outs. The Seidou team is finally beginning to get back on its feet. Will Kominato help Kuramochi to reach home? We’ll find out in the next chapter.
1. Chapter 280 Discussions and Predictions
After the latest chapter, it looks like the story is building up to something big. With no outs and runner on second, it seems like Kominato can bring Kuramochi home.
If that doesn’t happen. Shirasu can help him advance, and Miyuki could do a double or triple play.

Mei has been awfully arrogant throughout this game, and even though it’s clear that he has improved, it’s pretty irritating to watch him look down upon Seidou.
I hope that Seidou scores in this inning and wipes off Mei’s annoying smirk.

5. Chapter 279 Recap
The count is 2-2, and leadoff Kuramochi shows his tenacity by hanging on despite finding himself with his back against the wall.
Mei acknowledges his resilience and thinks to himself that he has powered up compared to last year. He throws another pitch, and the batter makes contact with the changeup.
He’s not letting the pitcher score another strike. Kuramochi hangs on for dear life with Mei’s every pitch but keeps up with his opponent. Since he started batting left exclusively, his stats have seriously improved.
Mei is slightly confused since he’s not hitting the ball forward at all. The catcher signals Mei to throw a fastball next.
Kuramochi plays with his entire being, and a high pitch misses spectacularly for the fourth ball. The leadoff gets on the base as the audience cheers for him to fight back.
With the fast-legged Kuramochi on the first base, two-hole Kominato takes a stance in the batter’s box. Seidou’s coach gestures towards the two batsmen, telling them to make a move when they deem it suitable.

Inajitsu notices that this is an excellent opportunity for Seidou to hit. Obviously, they want to use caution, but they also need to execute their assertiveness.
Some audience members noted that Mei is a south-paw, and even Kuramochi can’t make any reckless moves under his watch. Considering that he had a bad experience being picked off in the Sankou game, he can’t afford to make the same mistake.
The next ball leads to a swing and a miss at the first pitch, which is a changeup. Mei expected the batter to go for a double play.
Kominato finally hits the ball, and Kuramochi takes off for a run. Inajitsu tries to take him out, but he makes it in time.
The runner is now in scoring position on second with no outs. The crowd cheers, but Mei looks on with a disappointed look thinking how everyone made too much fuss over just reaching the second base.
With high spirits, the duo is in complete sync, and the game has finally started to look better for Seidou.
