Diablo Immortal received a much-awaited update in the form of upgrades and improved balancing in the game, along with a Battle Pass to Season 13.
Now, the developers, in their latest Developer Update Livestream, shared details about the Battle Pass system in Diablo 4. They have maintained their promise of keeping the Battle Pass merely cosmetic. 27 out of the 90 tiers of the Battle Pass are unlocked for free by all players. Some tiers give players the Smoldering Ash, a special currency that can unlock in-game boosts called “Season Blessings.”
The ability to unlock Season Blessings with the “Smoldering Ash” is the only player power that comes with the Battle Pass. However, it is not a Battle Pass exclusive and keeps the playing field level and fair.
It is anticipated that once the game releases on June 6th, 2023, as promised by the developers, the first season will run from mid to late July. Players can earn progress on the Battle Pass by earning “Favor” through the Season Journey.
This can be done by simply playing the game and leveling up. After the 23 tiers available to all, the remaining 67 are merely cosmetic, providing no gameplay benefits to the players.
This means that players spending cash on the Battle Pass won’t have an advantage over the ones who do not spend the extra bucks. It was mentioned by the developers that each Battle Pass will come with two complete sets of cosmetic armor.
This follows for every class. The pieces can be mixed and matched with other transmogs, unique mounts, and mount barding. The additional benefit of the Smoldering Ash will allow players to buy more cosmetics from the cash shop.
With all these cosmetic benefits, the Premium Battle Pass comes for USD 10, whereas the Accelerated Battle Pass comes for USD 25. Purchasing an Accelerated Battle Pass immediately unlocks 20 free tier skips plus an additional special cosmetic.
Thus, Blizzard has met their promises of doing away with the pay-to-win structure it struggled with in Overwatch 2. This means that players can don their favorite costume and battle it out without having any undue advantage.
