Dexter discovers that Harrison carries his dark passenger but has an internal conflict of whether he should tell Harrison the truth. Angela has a hunch when Batista mentions Harrison’s name. Her hunch grows even stronger when Audrey tells her that Harrison said Jim wasn’t his father’s real name right before he fell unconscious. Back at the police station, she looks up ‘Dexter Morgan’ and prints out his obituary. It’s clear that she’s going to confront Dexter about this but how much of the truth will he actually tell her?
After attending the conference and reassurance from Batista to trust her gut, will Angela be able to find out the ‘why’ regarding the case of the missing girls? It’s also certain that the Matt Caldwell case is not getting closed anytime soon. With Kurt’s lie out in the open, Angela might become suspicious of his other activities. However, he’s a powerful man and might be able to wiggle his way out of this, having had years of experience fooling the system.
Kurt has a clear pattern in choosing his victims, he tends to target vulnerable women in the age group of 16-25 that are runaways and won’t be missed by the system. When Chloe runs towards him instead of away from him, he shoots her and immediately cries in frustration because it didn’t go according to his plan. Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
Dexter considers telling Harrison what he really is and believes he can help him. ‘Debra’ yells at him and tells him what Harry did to him was child abuse and he can’t repeat the cycle with Harrison. When he confronts Harrison about the blade, he gets defensive and storms out. Later that night, Harrison attends a party hosted by his classmates that were on the ‘kill list.’
Harrison ends up unknowingly overdosing on Fentanyl at the party and passes out. Audrey jumps into action and calls the police. Logan arrives on the scene and is able to bring him back to consciousness just in time. Dexter tells Harrison he’s grounded and will have to attend therapy. In a rage, Dexter decides to kill the drug dealer responsible for providing drugs to the teenagers.
He sources ketamine from a local animal doctor claiming it was for his goat. He finds the drug dealer and just as he’s injected him, Logan arrives on the scene and Dexter has to make it seem like he was there just to punch the drug dealer for selling to kids and yell at him like a concerned father. Back at the police station, Logan intimidates the drug dealer into giving his supplier’s name. Dexter sees the address and decides to kill him.
He kidnaps the drug supplier and makes his death seem like an overdose. He later places the body back at his house for the police to find when they inevitably arrive to bust him for being a drug supplier who was lacing pills with Fentanyl. Meanwhile, Kurt Caldwell leads Chloe back to his cabin. When he asks her to leave, the way he does with all his victims, it doesn’t go as planned and he ends up shooting her in a way that was different from his usual method of killing.
Angela and Molly go to New York to confront Matt Caldwell. While they’re waiting on security footage from the hotel staff, they attend a police conference. Detective Batista is speaking at the conference and he and Angela have a conversation about the case of the missing girls. Batista mentions Debra and Dexter while talking about old cases and also mentions Harrison’s name. Later that day, they see that the guest the hotel was officially claiming as Matt Caldwell was actually someone else.
