Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 1 Recap

Ten years after faking his death, Dexter moves to a small town called Iron Lake, where he builds a new life for himself under the name ‘Jim Lindsay.’ His urges to kill are still there, but he controls them by adopting a scrupulous routine. He has visions of his dead sister, which keep reminding him to maintain the control over his homicidal urges.

When an entitled rich man comes to buy a hunting rifle at the shop Dexter works at, he feels his urge to kill getting stronger. It is revealed that this man was responsible for a boating accident that killed five people, and his rich family has enabled his terrible behaviour throughout the years. When the man kills the white buck Dexter had been tracking, he finally snaps. He gets Matt to own up to his crimes, but he has no remorse for what he’s done and Dexter finally kills him, breaking his ten year no killing streak.

Harrison finds Dexter in this new town, and approaches him. Initially, Dexter turns his son away thinking this is the only way to protect him. Towards the end of the episode, we see him go to the bus station and tell Harrison that he is his father and tells him to come home.

Dexter is a cult classic crime drama series that first aired on Showtime. The show’s first season was derived from the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004), the first in a series of novels by Jeff Lindsay. It was adapted for television by James Manos Jr., who wrote the first episode. Subsequent seasons evolved independently of Lindsay’s works.

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is introduced as a serial killer who kills other killers who have escaped from, or haven’t been found by the justice system. By day he is a blood spatter analyst who works for the Homicide Department of the Miami Metro Police.
