Atomic Heart was launched in the February of 2023. Even before the launch, the developers Mundfish confirmed they were planning and working on additional content.
With no confirmed date for launch and an April Fool’s joke that the DLC would be 6 hours long, gamers were eagerly waiting for some update on the DLC front.
Mundfish released a reveal teaser for DLC #1, which begins underwater. This would spark memories of The Academy of Consequences towards the end of the main storyline. The 20-second teaser also gave a tentative release window for the summer of 2023.
After the beginning, the camera pans above the ground. What is revealed reminds many players of the unsettling Limbo that Agent P3 enters a couple of times in the main storyline.
This is where some gravity-defying tech keeping walkways and buildings afloat is seen. This brings some form of joy for the fans of the game launched in a very buggy state.
The game had quite a few controversies, including Ukraine asking for the game, developed by Russian developers, to be banned: various performance issues, and depictions of a racist Soviet Cartoon from the mid-60s.
The developers released multiple patches to mitigate the issues and added a Japanese voiceover in the update 1.5.0.0. The vocal fanbase, however, remained undeterred by all the controversies.
They are very eager and looking forward for the upcoming DLC, of which little is known. They want to continue their exploits in-game after the main storyline, which can be completed in a little over 15 hours, set in a dystopian world – Facility 3826.
The developers had also mentioned planning for a sequel to Atomic Heart. Optimistic fans are hoping that the experience the indie studio gained in the production as well as designing of the game will be utilized in future DLCs as well as sequels.
