Piplup is a cute little Water-type Pokémon, first introduced in Generation IV. Its little blue body, with a tuft of feathers on its head, and its adorable little beak, are all very attractive features of this little fellow, which make every trainer want to catch one of these in the wild.
Piplup is supposed to have a double evolution. It evolves into Prinplup, and then into Empoleon – the final form. However, Pokemon GO trainers are not able to evolve it even once. In fact, in many cases, there is no evolve button available on the selected Piplup’s screen.
1. Why can’t I evolve Piplup in Pokemon GO?
A special event Piplup cannot be evolved in Pokemon GO because the developers have not added the event-specific evolved versions of Piplup into the game. Such Piplups usually have accessories on them, like a Pumpkin or a Santa hat.
Therefore, you need to catch a regular Piplup in order to evolve it. On the other hand, popular Pokemon like Pikachu usually have their event-specific evolution added to the game, thus, you can see hat-wearing Raichus but sadly no Prinplup and Empoleon.
2. How to evolve Piplup in Pokemon GO?
To evolve a Piplup into a Prinplup in Pokémon GO:
- Collect 25 Piplup Candy.
- Select the Piplup you want to evolve.
- Click the pink “evolve” button to start the evolution.
Prinplup can then be further evolved into Empoleon, for which you need 100 Piplup candies.
You can collect Piplup candies faster by using a yellow or silver Pinap berry while catching a Piplup. Additionally, you can get a Piplum candy for every 3 km you walk, if you have a Piplup or any of its evolution as your buddy.
Don’t be disheartened if you can’t evolve your current event Piplup there are plenty more in the Wild. Piplups can be found near water bodies because it is a pure water-type Pokemon. However, a better way to catch a regular one is to use a Rainy or Glacial Lure module in a Pokestop and wait for one to spawn.
