The King’s Gambit is the 19th main quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. In this quest, Henry goes undercover to spy on Sigismund during an important council. Players must pretend to be waiters and serve wine to various noblemen and the king.
Before entering the council, players need to find the right clothes and get a Royal Waiter Certificate. However, this quest has a hidden time limit, so it’s important to complete it quickly. But don’t worry as this guide will navigate you through the quest.
1. How to complete the King’s Gambit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?
Players can complete the King’s Gambit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 by finishing the following objectives-
- Find out how to get to the City Council from Mint Master Vavak.
- Obtain the king’s waiter’s certificate and clothes.
- Infiltrating the city council.
- Serve the Kuttenberg councillors.
- Serving the King Sigismund of Luxembourg.
1.1 Find out how to get to the City Council from Mint Master Vavak
Go to the Kuttenberg city hall during the day and talk to the guard outside. Say, “I have an appointment,” then you can enter freely.
Inside, talk to Ulrich Vavak of Neuhaus. What dialogues you pick doesn’t matter; he’ll always tell you how to get into the council meeting. You need to stand in for one of the waiters. This requires stealing the waiter’s certificate and clothes.
1.2 Obtain the King’s Waiter’s Certificate and Clothes
Both the certificate and clothes are obtained by talking to Franta Kuldaun. His location varies by time of day, so check the red map marker “C“.
To locate a character, skip time in 1-hour increments until he changes locations (he’s typically found at inns after 18:00). Save before speaking with him to prepare for skill checks, wearing heavy armor or charismatic clothes to increase success chances.
The dialogue options include “I’ll do the job” and using a charisma check if initial checks fail. Succeeding grants certificate/clothes needed for the next objective, while failure results in him asking for 1000 Groschen.
Note: It’s more beneficial to use charismatic attire or pickpocket/choke him out at night to obtain the items.
1.3 Infiltrating the City Council
After acquiring the required outfit (Royal Waiter’s Hat, Royal Waiter’s Coat, and the Trousers of a Royal Waiter), report to Scribe Majordono in the Scribe’s office. Remember to remove any weapons or excess uniforms; otherwise, you will not be allowed to enter.
1.4 Serving the Kuttenberg Councillors
Serving the council members is important, but it’s not hard. The council meeting lasts about 20 minutes. You must serve the guests wine and meet their other requests during this time. If you fail to do this, you will see a game over the screen after 8 minutes when Mojordomo comes and kicks you out of the meeting.
Here are some important tips for serving the council:
– You can find wine on the table in the corner.
– When a man asks for wine, bring it quickly.
– Make sure to bring the right color of wine (red or white).
– Do not serve Adam of Zarzits.
Following these guidelines will help you succeed in your task. If you do not perform well as a waiter, you will fail the objective and need to try again.
During the council, some men will ask you to get personal items from the back room. For example, the Bailiff will ask for a silver goblet, and Franz Rosenthal will ask for gloves. You can find the silver goblet on the desk in the back room labeled “Stolen Cup” and the gloves on a small table labeled “Lambskin Gloves.”
After serving the council, a cutscene will show King Sigismund. Then, you will play as Godwin and need to gather a group of allies.
1.5 Serving the King Sigismund of Luxembourg
Henry will now be alone and must serve wine to King Sigismund and Markvart von Aulitz when requested. If you disobey or ignore the orders, it results in a game over screen, and you get kicked out of the meeting.
Note: Remember that Monastic wine is red, and Tokaji wine is white.
First, Sigismund will ask for red monastic wine. Pour him the drink and stand back in the corner. Keep listening. Markvard will say, “Pour the king red wine,” but this time, Sigismund wants white wine. So, pour him white wine.
Then, you’ll get a cutscene where the king wants to drink with you. You can say, “To victory!” Another cutscene follows, taking you back to Raborsch and starting the next main quest.
