In dystopic times, one can see the best and the worst in people. Many stories take its readers to a future where mankind has been pushed to the brink of extinction due to a disaster.
Like many in the genre, Desert Punk takes place in an almost plausible future, where Japan has been turned into a desert due to a nuclear disaster in the past.
Masatoshi Usune announced in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Beam magazine’s July Edition that his manga, Desert Punk will conclude with its next two chapters.
The penultimate chapter for the manga will be published in its September Edition which will ship in August.
The series by Masatoshi Usune began serialization in Monthly Comic Beam from 5th August 1997. Since then the series has seen many delays, the first ended in 2004 when it returned with a new arc on Desert Punk’s young follower Kosuna. But it relapsed into a delay in 2005 again, returning in 2009 for a year.
The series finally returned from its long delay in 2013 and has been running ever since. The manga received its 21st volume in 2019.
The series saw a 24 episode anime adaptation in 2004 by Studio Gonzo. The series was directed by Takayuki Inagaki who has been credited for Rosario + Vampire, Indian Summer. The anime generated great ratings and received widespread appreciation.
About Desert Punk
Desert Punk is a Manga written and illustrated by Masatoshi Usune that began serialization in Monthly Comic Beam from 5th August 1997. It received an anime adaptation by Studio Gonzo that was directed by Takayuki Inagaki.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan called “The Great Kanto Desert”. The times are difficult as Japan got reduced to a desert-like state because of a nuclear disaster in the past. It features the adventures of a wandering mercenary named Kanta Mizuno, nicknamed Desert Punk.
He has gained a legendary reputation because of his impossible feats. He is known for completing his tasks no matter what the cost. Although a famous mercenary Mizuno has only one weakness, women. The story features his many adventures as he picks up an adventure throughout his journey and many enemies.
