Big Nick To Go On A Europe Wide Hunt For Donnie In Den Of Thieves 2

Den of Thieves, which was released in 2018, can almost be considered a cult classic already.

With a budget of $30M, the film did pretty well for itself and grossed more than $80M worldwide. A sequel was announced just a month after its released. In 2019, the sequel was officially titled Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera.

Now Big Nick actor, Gerard Butler, has revealed that the sequel will be filmed in various locations across Europe in early 2022.

Butler sat down with Unilad to talk about his latest film, Copshop. During the conversation the actor teased the return of Big Nick, revealing how the production on Den of Thieves 2 will go forward,

We’re supposed to shoot early next year. We’re Europe-bound, we’re still on the hunt for Donnie who’s now on the diamond district in Marseilles. I go over to hunt him down, but with different intentions than you might imagine. So we’re gonna be in Marseilles, the Alps and London – it’s definitely a more glamorous journey than the last one, and probably a more fun, sexy journey.

Set in Los Angeles filled with cops and career criminals, the first film follows ‘Big Nick’ O’Brien, an LA County Sheriff’s Department Detective, who takes on the ex-Marine Ray Merrimen and his gang of thieves as they plan a heist in the Federal Reserve.

The first film also starred Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Evan Jones, Dawn Olivieri, Mo McRae and Max Holloway.

An official synopsis for the sequel has not been released as of yet. However, Butler’s statement suggests that it will move away from the gritty Los Angeles scene and the character of Donnie will have a more prominent role in the sequel.

Director Christian Gudegast will return to direct the sequel. If filming is to begin early next year then the estimated release date might be around late 2022 or perhaps early 2023.
