Demon slayer franchise released a one-shot on the 4th of October, based on Rengoku and his first mission. Seeing how the Flame Hashira is always cheerful, you will be surprised to see how awful his first mission was.
Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the nine most powerful swordsmen in Demon Slayer and also known as “The Flame Pillar”. The one-shot is brief and it provides us with enough details to piece together Rengoku’s past.
He was able to hold the Upper Rank despite grave injuries, and is definitely a fan-favourite among the manga readers with his direct breath style. This one-shot reveals a lot about his dark past.
The chapter starts with Rengoku, who was about to leave for his first mission when his father declares that both Rengoku and his brother lack the skills to replace him as the Flame Hashira.
Now, that’s some harsh words Rengoku had to face before his first mission. This conversation tells us a lot about the relationship he shares with his father.
As we know Rengoku had a strong faith in his ideology that it’s the duty of the one who is born strong to protect the weak. From this one-shot, we can say that his father played an important role in instilling this ideology within him.
The next panel takes place amidst the forest where he faces a dangerous demon who has killed nine of the Demon Slayers. It was quite heartbreaking to see all his comrades dead.
This incident made him admire his comrades and friends even more. His comrades who fought till the end, trying to save lives of others, had a huge impact on his current personality.
It made him even more determined to save the lives of others who are weak, even if it brings death to him.
Rengoku realised that although his father discouraged him, he was just trying to show the harsh reality to his son, trying to save his son from the horrors that a weak demon slayer might face.
He understood that to protect the weak, one must become strong. In the end, Rengoku vowed that one day he will become admirable just like his father.
As we know, the new Demon Slayer movie will be released shortly and the hype surrounding its release is likely to ensure huge viewership numbers when it comes out in Japan on 16th of October.
