The Swordsmith village comes under attack by two extremely powerful foes in episode 3 of Demon Slayer Season 3, titled “A Sword From Over 300 Years Ago.”
As Tanjiro continues his errands within the village and awaits his new sword to return from polishing, the town is brought under fire when two Upper Ranks attack together. Even with Muichiro’s presence, the fight quickly turns south.
A demon with a unique ability that makes beheading it even stronger as it regenerates multiple new bodies, the fight is quickly turned in its favor. Muichiro has been knocked far away from the battle, and Tanjiro can only hold on for so long before he is killed.

1. Episode 4 Speculation:
Muichiro stopped to save Kotetsu on the way back to the Upper Rank and will likely not reach on time to protect Tanjiro from the incoming sound-wave attack. Since he is incapacitated, it will probably be the perfect time for Kanroji to enter and save him.
Another possibility lies in Genya or Nezuko getting back into the fight and helping him. Still, since they are near the other bodies of the Upper-Rank Four, they will likely need more time to leave. Mitsuri’s entrance has to happen at some point regardless, or they stand no chance of winning.

3. Recap of Episode 3:
A final slash through the head of the robot opens up a hidden sword inside the body. Kotetsu tries to convince him to take the sword, and they’re both overwhelmed with curiosity and take it out to get a good look and find something incredibly rusted and bloody.
An extremely buff and huge swordsmith interrupts them; he takes the sword from them and asks them to leave it to him. Haganezuka refuses to explain where he is missing and takes the sword forcefully.
Just in time, Kanamori comes in and tickles him till he goes limp. He explains how Haganezuka has been training in the mountains to prepare a better sword for Tanjiro but needs to be more socially capable of telling them.
Tanjiro sits with Genya and tries to converse normally but is immediately refused and kicked out of the room. He instead goes to Nezuko and spends some quality time with her while he talks about Genya and even the possibility of inviting him to breakfast.
As a swordsmith makes his way back from the hot springs, a mysterious vase in the middle of it soon proves to be the home of the Upper Five, who immediately kill him. Genya searches around the swordsmith’s house but finds him missing.
Muichiro wakes Tanjiro up and asks about Kanamori’s location since he can’t find him anywhere. As Nezuko, Tanjiro, and Muichiro chat inside the room, an Upper Rank crawls in and immediately prompts Muichiro to unsheathe and launch an attack.
The demon dodges the attack and jumps onto the ceiling as Tanjiro jumps to attack with his Hinokami Kagura, followed up by Nezuko’s kick and a clean slice to the head from Muichiro. The head immediately regenerates and grows into a body, while the body grows back into a head.
However, before Muichiro can even launch an attack, he is immediately thrown away into the forest. Without his backup, Tanjiro is quickly incapacitated. But Genya attacks from the back and beheads the demons. However, the vital spot of this demon is not the head, and it grows stronger.
The Upper Four blasts Tanjiro with a powerful sound wave that sends him to the floor, unable to hear or move. Muichiro runs through the forest to quickly get back to the Upper Rank and nearly decides to ignore Kotetsu as he gets attacked by a low-level demon. Tanjiro’s words had an effect, however, and he turned back.
