Tanjiro takes up another training session using an ancient doll in episode 2 of Demon Slayer Season 3 titled “Yoriichi Type Zero.”

As he eavesdrops on the argument between Kotetsu and Muichiro, Tanjiro cannot hold himself from joining in to protect the boy. However, the situation is deeper than he thought as he encounters a doll that has been passed down for 300 years.

A craft that seems eerily familiar, Tanjiro quickly pieces things together and gets a hint as to what the doll could be. A training session with the doll quickly boosts his skill and reveals a hidden weapon inside.

We have finally found the man from the dream, Yoriichi. From Kotetsu’s explanation, he is likely an ancestor of the Kamado family from over 300 years ago, and he is likely a vital key to defeating Muzan.

Tanjiro’s slice of the doll’s neck reveals a hidden sword, which he will likely take and use permanently. There is a high chance that it is Yoriichi’s blade and may have been specifically designed to be passed down through the bloodline, considering Muichiro didn’t find it.

3.   Recap of Episode 2:

Tanjiro watches Muichiro and the kid start arguing as he tries to figure out if he should intervene, but his decision is made very easy when he strikes the child and sends him to the floor. He tries to stop Muichiro but is very easily knocked aside, a tiny body still holding incredible power.

He manages to free the boy from his grasp, but he’s still persistent in not giving the key to anyone. Muichiro begins threatening the boy with the idea of torture training and puts him in his place, telling him to hand it over.

Tanjiro can’t take the disrespect anymore and goes off on Muichiro as he defends the boy and the reputation of all the swordsmiths. However, Muichiro knocks him out once more. Haganezuka helps him out but quickly runs away the second Tanjiro wakes up.

Muichiro takes the key that controls a mechanical doll, and Tanjiro finds him sparring with the doll in a clearing. The boy explains that it was made by his ancestors, Yoriichi type zero, and has lasted over 300 years.

Tokito’s crow and the boy, Kotetsu, provide a clue that helps Tanjiro finally begin understanding his dream, a memory that could’ve been passed down from his ancestors. Muichiro lands a slice and cracks the armor of the doll, prompting Kotetsu to run away in frustration.

Tanjiro reveals his ambitions and cheers the boy up, who pledges to watch the combat training, which should continue till nightfall. However, on the way back, Muichiro says that his session is already done and that his sword has snapped, so he takes one of the doll’s.

They return to a still functional doll and take this opportunity for Tanjiro to train and overcome Muichiro. He spars with the doll as he tries to keep up with his movements but is knocked to the ground multiple times. Kotetsu begins coaching him in the most brutal way possible.

With ghastly training sessions where he wasn’t given any food or water, he eventually began hallucinating visions of crossing to the afterlife. However, he finds a moment where he analyzes all the doll’s movements and manages to land his first strike against the doll.

Eventually, training harder and harder, he finds a different type of battle intellect where every sense is heightened. He evades a series of attacks and lands a clean slice to the neck. The doll’s head falls to the floor, revealing a handle of a hidden sword.
