Chasing after the main body into the forest, Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya are on the brink of ending this fight. Just barely dodging all their attacks, he seems to be running faster and faster as they chase him, and it soon seems like they won’t be able to catch him at all.

Tanjiro remembers Zenitsu’s words on how Thunder Breathing works by focusing all his strength on his feet and launching himself with a burst of power. He manages to reach the main body and catches him, but he suddenly evolves in size and grabs Tanjiro by the head.

Everybody comes to help him, and Tanjiro barely gets enough distance to launch his Hinokami Kagura alongside Nezuko’s demon arts and gets his sword through half of his neck as he staggers away from Tanjiro, although severely injured.

Using his Total Concentration Breathing, he lunges in with his final slash through the demon’s head. He cleanly executes him once and for all as day breaks, and Tanjiro runs to get Nezuko to the shade, but she’s focused on something else entirely.

The demon’s body continues to chase after the humans without its head, but Tanjiro can’t leave Nezuko in the sun without her burning up. He’s stuck in a deadlock, a lose-lose situation where his sister is burning to death in his arms, and he can’t do anything but watch while the demon chases the helpless villagers.

Nezuko sees his dilemma and kicks him into the air toward the demon, leaving her in direct exposure to the sunlight. She gives one last smile before Tanjiro runs at a crazy speed to the demon’s body, strikes its vital point in the heart, and kills it once and for all to atone for his sins through death.

Tanjiro falls to the ground in tears for Nezuko, who would’ve burned to death by now, but he looks up to see his little sister walk up to him and wish him a good morning. As he staggers toward her, she somehow regains the ability to speak and seems wholly healed of all wounds.

Far away in another city, Muzan celebrates in a twisted joy as a demon who can withstand the sun has finally arrived, and his quest nears completion. He had near immortality and incredible strength his entire life, but a very prominent weakness to the sun, something he had been trying to find a loophole around forever.
