In episode seven, titled “Set Your Heart Ablaze,” the Flame  Hashira faced Akaza in a final fight. Rengoku went beyond his limits and used a decisive move.

Akaza and Rengoku got into an intense fight which ended with the Flame Hashira badly wounded. Akaza realized dawn was approaching and got stuck with Rengoku. Inosuke and Tanjiro tried to finish the demon, but Akaza fled.

Rengoku gave his final advice to Tanjiro and the slayers on being the next hashiras. He saw his mother before passing away and was happy she was proud of him.

This episode continues with the final fight between the Flame Hashira and Akaza.

Tanjiro, seeing Rengoku seriously wounded, wants to help but is unable due to his injuries. Akaza says if Rengoku were a demon, all his wounds would feel like a scratch.

With that, Rengoku unleashes his full flame aura and decides to finish Akaza as quickly as possible.

Akaza seeing such magnificent power, eagerly wants the Flame Hashira to be a demon. Rengoku going beyond the limit uses the ninth form of flame breathing.

Akaza and Rengoku clash with their intense powers. The Flame Hashira uses every move to slice the demon’s head and almost gets to it. With the power subsiding, Tanjiro finds Rengoku in a horrific state.

Akaza punched through Rengoku’s body and said the Flame Hashira has to become a demon or he’ll die. Rengoku then thinks about a flashback with his mother.

His mother explains why he’s stronger and has to use his strength for the good of others.

After hearing his mother’s dying wish, Rengoku catches Akaza off guard and starts to slice his neck.

Akaza tries to punch Rengoku, but the Flame Hashira stops it even though he’s in a bad state. Akaza then realizes the sunlight is approaching as it dawns.

He tries to break free but finds himself stuck with the Flame Hashira. Tanjiro is seen trying to use this chance to help Rengoku to cut the demon’s head off. As Akaza struggles to break free, Inosuke and Tanjiro get close to defeating him.

Akaza desperately rips off his hands and makes a run to hide from the sunlight.

Tanjiro throws his blade at Akaza as he runs away and says to get back. He hysterically states that Rengoku won as he didn’t let anyone die, and he’s more potent than the demon.

The Flame Hashira says to Tanjiro to calm down and get close to him for one last chat. Rengoku tells Tanjiro to convey to his brother to follow the right path with his heart and his father to take care of himself.

He also states that there are some notes about the Flame breathing techniques that Tanjiro might be looking for at his house. The Flame Hashira says his sister is part of the demon corps as she protected the people from demons.

Rengoku finally says he believes in all of them, and they should not let any weakness let them down.

Set your heart ablaze and become the next hashira for the demon slayer corps. As Rengoku gets closer to his death, he sees his mother.

He asks her if he did well carrying out his duties with his strength. She replies he did and is proud of him. Hearing that, the Flame Hashira smiles and passes away.

Afterward, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu get emotional over the events that took place.

The Kasugai crows are later seen reporting the death of the Flame Hashira to all the other hashira.

Kagaya, hearing about the incident, praises Rengoku for saving everyone on the train. He states his time is also near, so they’ll meet soon in the land of the dead.
