Koyoharu Gotoge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was one of the most significant anime sensations of 2019, bagging multiple titles since its release.
From outselling Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga after its decade long reign to having its opening theme be the most downloaded anime song of 2019, Demon Slayer has had a great year.
The manga’s 19th volume sold around 1,378,361 copies to rank #1 on Oricon’s weekly sales chart (print) from 3rd to 9th February. Demon Slayer is the 3rd manga series to achieve this benchmark, after One Piece and Attack on Titan.
The total estimated sales from the franchise during the week 27th January to 2nd February, according to Oricon, is around 1.23 billion yen.
For the first time in Oricon’s history, a single manga, Demon Slayer, has occupied the top 10 spots. Including the physical print and digital releases, Demon Slayer has approximately 40 million copies in circulation as of February 2020.
The manga has been performing exceedingly well for the past few months. In 2019, Demon Slayer was the second highest-selling manga with the first spot being taken by Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga.
