New updates for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles have been arriving all through 2021, and the latest one comes from, you guessed right, Gamescom 2021.
The latest trailer for the manga-based game revealed a new mode – the Adventure mode. While the standard Versus mode pits players against each other both online and offline, it seems Adventure mode will be more narrative-driven.
As linked above, the primary focus of the short but heavy trailer is an intense battle that introduces us to the demon of Mt. Natagumo, Twelve Kizuki (Lower Five) Rui.
We also get a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s character design and 3-D modeling. The trailer also features none other than Tanjiro Kamado, the franchise’s protagonist.
First announced back in February, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles looked like a generic 3D fighter at first. But the story trailer that dropped in June showcased some open-world elements as well.
The game’s story will focus on Tanjiro Kamado as he embarks on a quest to become a Demon Slayer so he can return his demon sister, Nezuko, back to her human self.
The narrative will follow the same plot as the anime, with Tanjiro enduring brutal training before undertaking the Final Selection exam to become a part of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Fights against various kinds of demons will provide most of the action, but Tanjiro will also clash against some non-demon opponents, like the fox twins Sabito and Makomo. A fight against The Hand Demon will also be on the cards.
Demon Slayer arrives on October 15 for PS4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you’re looking to dive into the franchise before then, you can check out the manga or stream the anime on Netflix.

The brother-sister duo shed the tragic events of their family’s murder and step into the world of demons and demon slayers. Their unique situation and their inclusion in the demon slayer politics send ripples within the community.
The game will offer two modes:
- A Solo Mode wherein players can pursue the anime’s plot and decapitate demons while playing as Tanjiro.
- A Versus Mode will also be packed by the game where characters from the anime like Tanjiro, Giyu, Rengoku, etc., can be pitched against one another in a gruesome 1 vs. 1 setting.
