Isekai has become a typical genre in the anime world with little to no originality. However, we rarely find good isekai anime with an exciting and unique plot line. Demon Lord 2099 is a reverse isekai cyberpunk series that has received the Fantasia Grand Prize.
Demon Lord 2099’s strength lies in its setting and world-building. The series merges two worlds to create a place that is futuristic and magical at the same time, which makes it a fascinating series.
The series is finally receiving an anime, and here’s everything you need to know about the show.
Kadokawa announced an anime adaptation of Daigo Murasaki and illustrator Kureta’s “Demon Lord 2099” (Maou 2099) “Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai Online 2023” livestream event. The anime is all set to air in 2024.
J.C. Staff (Sugar Apple Fairy Tale) is producing the anime. The staff members haven’t been announced yet, and we must wait for more details to be released.
The cast for the main characters of Demon Lord 2099 has been announced, and here are those details.
Character | Cast | Other Works |
Demon Lord Veltol | Satoshi Hino | Ascendance of a Bookworm (Otto) |
Machina | Miku Itō | Princess Connect! Re:Dive (Kokkoro) |
This anime focuses on the story of Demon Lord Veltol, who is revived on Earth in 2099. Earth has undergone many changes and works on magineering where science and magic are used together.
The cyberpunk elements are all visible in this story: implants, artificial limbs, cyborgs, robots, shady mega-corporations, and so on. These cyberpunk elements blend well with the fantasy elements that were thrown in.
The series will be able to get more laughs from these otherworldly visitors not understanding essential human activity as it is a reverse isekai.
All in all, this is a significant shift from typical isekai, which is a positive change. Let’s wait until the production company releases more information about this anime.
