Delicious In Dungeon is a new fantasy anime by a beloved Japanese animation studio, Studio Trigger. It revolves around a group of adventurers led by Laios who embark on a perilous journey through a labyrinthine dungeon.
They decide that to survive in this perilous location, they should utilize ingredients from the creatures inhabiting the dungeons to craft delicious meals. They hope to find their missing party member, Falin, by their journey’s end.
1. Episode 2 Release Date
Episode 2 of “Delicious in Dungeon” Season 1 will be released on Thursday, January 11, 2024. You can watch the new episode as soon as it is released on Netflix.
I. Is “Delicious in Dungeon” on a Break?
No, Season 1 of “Delicious in Dungeon” is not on a break this week and should be released as usual on the above-mentioned date.
2. Episode 2 Speculation
The episode kept on a light air throughout the entire episode, which was befitting its name. It would be weird to see too many serious things where food is involved. We have been introduced to the 4-man party as of right now. The fifth person, Laios’ sister Falin, is in the stomach of the red dragon. It is stated that revival magic exists, but it’s no use if the dragon digests her.
Luckily for them, the dragons digest stuff slowly. So now they head deeper into the dungeons devouring the monsters as their new food source, hoping to save Falin. They have already reached floor 2, and the next episode will probably show their descent to floor 3 unless a problem appears on their doorstep.
3. Recap of Episode 1
The episode started on a fairly serious note, which gave the impression of any average dungeon-based anime, but it was quickly made clear what made this anime unique. We are introduced to many characters right off the bat, such as our main character, Laios, and his party members, Marcille, Chilchuck, and Falin.
After losing most of his team to a red dragon in the dungeon, Laios and the previously mentioned party members barely make it out with the help of Falin’s magic. As a result, Falin, who is also Laios’ sister herself, gets trapped in the dungeon. Now Laios wants to go alone to save her, but Chilchuck and Marcille insist on following him.
From this point on, the show kept the comic vibe alive as the atmosphere was no longer serious but rather was very funny. While heading towards the dungeon, Laios tells the other two about his plan of using the monsters as food. Marcille immediately creeps out, hearing this idea, and raises the red flag of refusal.
They enter the dungeon anyway and soon hunt a weak mushroom monster. As Marcille still fights about not eating them, Laios rushes to another room to find and hunt a scorpion. Once he’s done killing it, he starts the cooking, and when asked about the venom by Marcille, he pulls out a book and says it shouldn’t be a problem.
He takes a bite of the tail, and sure enough, it is disgusting. The book only said it was edible, but it still tasted horrible. Suddenly, a mysterious dwarven man approaches them. This man was very skilled in cooking monster delicacy and quickly helped Laios and his party prepare the food to the best of his ability.
Later, when he heard about their mission, he wished to join them since cooking a red dragon was his dream. Now, with one more party member, Laios descends to the 2nd floor, where they decide to hunt for monsters again for food. This time, though, hearing what monsters appear there, Marcille forces them to go for plant monsters.
She tries to attack one of the plants but is instead captured by it. Laios saves her, and to elevate the comic element of the show, he asks her, “How did being wrapped in the plant’s vine feel?”. Marcille perfectly conveys what every watcher might have felt at that question through her facial expressions. The new member, Senshi, cooks the plants and Marcille loves it to the point of admiring the monsters as food.
4. About Dungeon Meshi
Dungeon Meshi is a fantasy gourmet manga by Ryoko Kui. It started getting published in 2014. It is also licensed by Yen Press and published in English as ‘Delicious in Dungeon’. As of August 2022, 12 volumes have been released.
The story starts after a whole kingdom is sunk, and its survivor king promises his treasury to anyone who can defeat the culprit magician. Guilds are thus formed, and tons of adventures go on this journey.
The protagonist loses his sister to a dragon on one such journey and promises to bring her back. On his way, he and his party need to survive by cooking monsters inside the dungeon.
