Amazon Game Studio is busy making sure their MMO, New World, is in playable condition. The game has been hit by a wave of problems that never seem to end, and fans demand it be fixed ASAP. While some are minor, others can be game-breaking and require a decent amount of downtime for maintenance.
The team has announced the first server merger will happen on December 8th, and the December update will be launched soon after. Before that, they have released the patch notes revealing that the game will be getting a few new Perks.
The December update will be launching along with a special holiday event. Amazon has already released the update on the Public Test Environment server. According to the patch notes, fourteen new Perks will be added via the update and will target different areas.
There are new Perks that improve gathering efficiency, offensive Perks to reduce enemy healing effectiveness, some to improve fully charged attacks or attacks with active Grit, and Perks that will minimize damage from various sources.
The new Perks seem to align with the feedback players have been giving Amazon for New World. Many players complained about how long it takes to gather items or Grit attacks being high-risk, low reward. Hopefully, these upcoming Perks should make it much more rewarding to the player and allow for deeper customization based on the gear they wear.
Perks in New World are abilities that can be attached to weapons and armor pieces. Every item has slots from zero to three Perks, depending on the quality. Weapons and armor also have Gemstone slots, with gems providing a specific Perk for better optimization.
Along with new Perks, the December patch will also be bringing some significant changes to PvP combat. Amazon will be changing the formula for PvP damage as lower-level players have higher damage mitigation. Several weapons are also being adjusted or have known bugs fixed with the update.
Lastly, the most significant addition coming with the update is New World’s Winter Convergence Event. There will be more snowfall, the Northern Lights will decorate the sky, and Yeti, the Winter Wanderer, will be visiting New World. Players will be able to earn Winter Tokens, which can be exchanged for unique cosmetics at the Holiday Shops.

New World is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Amazon Games set to be released on August 31, 2021. The game was previously scheduled to release in May 2020 but was delayed to its current date.
Set in the mid-1600s, players colonize a fictional land known as Aeternum Island, modeled after North and South Americas in the Atlantic Ocean. The game will be using a buy-to-play business model, meaning there will be no monthly subscription fee.
