Death Note is one of the most awesome psychological manga out there, but did you know about its live-action movie adaptation by Netflix?
It is actually a forbidden topic in the Death Note fandom as we all choose to ignore its existence.
It seems like Netflix has realized the colossal blunder that they had done and are planning to fix it. The news of another live-action might make your eyebrow arch, but bear with me to see for yourself whether it has any potential or not.
Death Note 2 is the upcoming live-action project of Netflix, and this time, the writer will be Greg Russo. Greg Russo is the writer of Mortal Kombat, and his recent interview gave us an insight into the sequel to Netflix’s 2017 Death Note movie.
Greg Russo’s comment suggests that, unlike the last film, the upcoming movie will be more dependent on the original manga.
“I wanted to go back to the source material. I wanted to go back to what made the original stuff so great, and so we’re doing something really neat with it.”
Greg Russo
He has also said that he loves the Death Note manga and thinks highly of it, but is it enough to prevent the movie from altering the plotline?
There is more than one reason behind the distrust that has been built amongst fans. So what exactly went wrong with the first Death Note movie?
Apart from changing the whole location of the plot, the film decreased interaction between Light and L. Suddenly, Light seemed less intelligent and crueler. Many fans did not like the changes in the rules of the Death Note or the ending sequence.
However, Russo promises a change and actually wants to adapt the manga instead of just tweaking the plot. Will the upcoming movie dissolve the past mistakes of Netflix, or will it make fans lose hope once again?
Meanwhile, Death Note’s writers have not only published a one-shot for the manga but have also started serializing a new manga series, Platinum End. We suggest you give them a read till the film is out!
