Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman confirmed Wolverine’s return and debut in the MCU in the D23 Expo, fans have wondered – Is Logan back from the dead? Well, Hugh Jackman’s comment has cleared up all doubts the fandom has regarding Wolverine’s timeline in Deadpool 3.
In conversation with The Empire Film Podcast, the Logan actor explained how he’d felt that the 2017 film was the perfect end for his character. After Jackman’s talk with Levy and Mangold, they decided to keep Deadpool 3’s Wolverine’s timeline before the events of Logan. Even though the actor didn’t explain how that came to be, he detailed how the decision to come back as Logan was a spur-of-the-moment decision.
Read his full quote below about how he came to accept the role of Wolverine once again:
I did tell him that it took place before our movie, so I wasn’t going to screw with the claws popping out of the grave. So he was relieved by that, and he totally got it. He thought it was a good idea. None of us wanted to screw with that. I was really proud of that movie and what we did; it felt perfect. And actually, for five years, I was really, honestly, a hard done. I was like, this was it. It was August 14, I remember driving, and it just came to me like that. I just thought this would be so much fun. I’ll probably have more fun in that movie than in anything I’ve ever done this year. And August 13, I was like, ‘I’m never playing that part again, I promise you.’
Hugh Jackman
Jackman’s comment doesn’t solve the mystery of how Deadpool 3 will tackle with bringing Logan back before the events that led to his death. But Jackman has taken to social media to put a definite end to any rumors that imply Logan is back from the dead.
The actor has put out a video on YouTube explaining how Logan’s death came in 2009 in the fictional world Fox Studios had created. So, the MCU’s takeover of the X-Men and Fantastic Four only leaves a few paths open, including time travel, flashbacks, alternate universes, or reboots.
Which angle the MCU leans on to actualize Logan in Deadpool 3 remains a mystery. Still, Jackman has been hopeful about staying true to Logan’s end while making the upcoming film with Reynolds.
All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now we can go back because, you know, it’s science, so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was essential to me. And I think probably to the fans too.
