Dead Island 2’s Trailer Finally Out with Gameplay Reveal, Releases February Next Year

Dead Island 2, the latest entry in the Dead Island series, announced its iconic trailer 8 years ago. But since then, many development changes in direction have made us think that the game might have reached a dead end. However, recent rumors have sparked the fire again. 

Just last week, Amazon listings for pre-orders of the PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game were spotted, hinting that the official announcement for the game might be coming soon, which is exactly what has happened. 

Dead Island 2 was finally, officially, revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a Cinematic Trailer, Gameplay, and a 2023 release date. 

The Cinematic Trailer showcases Jacob, one of the six playable characters in the game. As soon as the trailer starts, you can sense the pulpy-comedy element that appears in previous dead island games.  

The release date is also in line with the February 3rd, 2023 release date leaked with the Amazon listings. There were not one but two trailers revealed at Gamescom. The Gameplay Trailer told us much about the game, indicating that there are multiple ways to slay through the zombies.  

So Dead Island 2’s gameplay is all about experimenting with your preferred Zombie slaying methods, just kind off going nuts. It’s a combat toy box of close quarters melee brutality with a few guns for fun.

Khan, Lead Narrative Designer, Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, highlights that the gameplay is all about finding your own way to slay through the swarms of zombies throughout….., well. 

“SEE YOU IN HELL-A”, the tagline reveals that the game takes us to Los Angeles, a city perfect for the game’s setup, according to Khan. Dead “Island” 2 takes place in a city, funny and confusing, isn’t it? Much like the game itself.   

Our Pulpy tone is kind of a love letter to classic cult horror Hollywood B-movies, so where better than to set it than in Los Angeles. Sort of a modern paradise gone to hell.

Neither of the trailers goes deep into the plot, however, one thing is certain that the developers are building on the success of the first Dead Island game and using the same formula but better. The game releases on February 3rd next year, so then will we finally know if the long wait was worth it?
