Shazam 2 and The Flash will act as a soft reboot for the entire DC Universe, followed by Aquaman 2 and Blue Beetle, DC will assume its new look. The new heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran recently released the first phase of the new DCU, Gods and Monsters, which will commence in 2025.
Since the announcement in January, of the new DCU slate, Gunn and Safran have been addressing several queries from the fandom regarding the cast and future of the new DC Universe. Gunn has explicitly spoken up about Cavill’s recast for Superman, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller’s future, and the possibility of some MCU actors joining the DCU.
In a new comment on a fan’s post via CBR, James Gunn reassures the fandom that WB can’t influence DC Studios’ decision anymore. He states, “DC is separate from Warner Brother as of a couple of months ago.” The separation thus appeases fans and placates there worries about Warner Bros. interference.
Now, make no mistake. DC Studios is still a part of Warner Bros. Discovery. But Gunn and Safran now hold the same rank as Warner Bros. Picture Group CEOs, and thus their decisions for the DCU will not be affected by Zaslav’s big picture.
Gunn has previously stated that the previous DC history handled by Warner Bros “was pretty f****d up.” Gunn and Safran’s ten-year plan for the DCU is much more well thought out.
DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters has quite a few new films and series lined up, which will start showing up on big and small screens in 2025. Gunn even claims that phase one of the DCU is much more interconnected and detail-oriented than the MCU’s Phase 1.
Are you excited to start the new chapter of the DCU come 2025?
