In episode 9 of Date A Live IV, we’ve finally reached the famous Kurumi Refrain arc. Kurumi has been regarded as one of the most overrated girls in anime history, so I’m hoping she’ll get some solid development and characterization in this arc.
Kurumi and the DEM are both interested in going back and killing the original spirit, so I don’t know which is the greater threat. I am sure Shido has his hands full. Great setup episode. In the competition between him and Kurumi, I’m looking forward to seeing who blinks first.

Episode 10 Speculations
The next episode will be titled “Girl Time”. Speculations suggest that Valentine’s Day is drawing close, and girls, as well as boys, are anxious. While girls are enjoying the day, boys are also as enthusiastic about it. Despite the fact that no fights will be fought, this episode is going to be exciting.
We are all eagerly awaiting the release of the episode in order to see what will happen next.

Episode 9 Recap
Having an opening shot of Kurumi playing in the background of the episode is definitely an effective way to get us in the mood for this arc. The fact that Kurumi actually seems willing to follow Shido’s instructions indicates that she isn’t just here to cause problems.
However, Kurumi might not be completely truthful on this. We don’t really have a clue about what she did to Shido during their little rooftop encounter. All we know is that she sent her clones against Ellen and Nibeelcole at the same time as helping Mana.
Considering the conditions Kurumi stipulates in her challenge, I am glad I am not Shido, otherwise, I most likely would’ve died instantly. It’s no secret that Shido can make her fall in love with him, it’s been done before. A whole OVA is dedicated to the subject!
In other words, Kurumi’s mission has been killing the Spirit of Origin and preventing disasters all along. Despite the fact that killing the Spirit 30 years ago would have prevented all of the disasters afterward, I think Kurumi isn’t wanting to accomplish a straightforward goal here.
After all, we’re dealing with Kurumi here! She is literally the most unpredictable character in the series. Her plans are always big.
It is the sweetest experience to be greeted by Kurumi in the morning with an “ara ara”. However, it appears that the challenge has begun. Kurumi was in such a good mood after visiting a cat spot. Her smile says it all.
Cats, however, don’t share her sentiments. She even got Shido to say “meow” when she scratched him! Okay, I guess it’s a tie.
Next week is going to be so much fun and I am already eager to see what efforts they will put into making each other fall in love.
