Darker than Black is a 2007 sci-fi, action, and mystery anime that ran for two seasons and finally concluded in 2010 with four special episodes.

In Darker than Black, a catastrophe has happened to the world, which leads to all of the sky’s stars disappearing.
They are replaced with fake stars that represent semi-demonic contracts between some selected humans and an unknown element.
These selected humans, called “Contractors”, are given superhuman abilities from flight to fire-bending.
But everything comes with a cost, and these Contractors must pay a tax that could literally be anything from collecting stones to eating flowers to kissing random men.
The plot follows Hei, one of the Contractors, as he encounters a new human of his kind in each new episode.

1. Release Date
Season 3 of Darker than Black has not been announced yet. It has been more than a decade since Season 2, and we haven’t received any news yet.
Rumors on Reddit surrounding a new release started floating around last year due to the show’s 10th anniversary, but they were nothing more than just that.
If the anime ever returns, we hope to see Season 3 somewhere around 2025, celebrating its 15th anniversary.
The story of Darker than Black has ended already. Hence, there might not be a third season altogether. The series is quite popular, so there are still chances for us to meet Hei and the others one more time.
2. What To Expect From Season 3
Season 2 of Darker than Black was quite different from Season 1 in tone, characters and storytelling. The second season revolved around a 13-year-old Russian girl named Suou.
Superpowers are no longer the primary focus. Instead, the plot progresses as Suou loses her family and gets betrayed by her friends.
Hei, the badass protagonist from Season 1, is degraded to a homeless-looking drunkard who has no patience for children, which is terrible for Suou since he’s going to take the role of her caretaker.
Even with these dark themes, Season 2 is basically the story of an optimistic girl who is on a quest to look for her twin brother and save the world.
Season 3 could again shift the style of the story with the introduction of new characters. However, there are no loose ends in the plot, so it’s hard to predict where the third season would lead.

Darker Than Black is an anime series directed by Tensai Okamura and animated by Studio Bones. Season 1 premiered in April 2007 and Season 2 in October 2009.
It has been 10 years since Heaven’s Gate and Hell’s Gate appeared in South America and Japan, respectively.
The Gate does not abide by the laws of physics and grants supernatural abilities to Contractors, who accept them by giving up their humanity.
In a Japanese city surrounding the Hell’s Gate, Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with Hei, an infamous contractor known as “Black Reaper.” Hei deals with those who threaten the existence of Contractors.
