In the first episode of DanMachi season 5, Syr realizes her deep affection and possible feelings of love for Bell Cranel. Therefore, she had her friend, Horn, send a love letter to him, inviting Bell on a date with her at the Goddess Festival.
Besides that, DanMachi season 5 episode 1 revealed Syr’s unexpected connection to Freya Familia. Interestingly enough, Syr, who was very much aware of Goddess Freya’s affection for Bell, chose to ask the boy on a date nonetheless. This marks the beginning of the Goddess of Fertility arc.

2. Episode 2 Speculation
DanMachi season 5, episode 1 kicked off the Goddess of Fertility Arc and set the stage for an interesting conflict between the Hestia Familia and the Freya Familia. Aside from revealing Syr’s connection with the Freya Familia, the episode gave fans a glimpse of the other Freya Familia members.
Hedin had supposedly taken Bell somewhere after ambushing him when he was on his way to meet Syr. The mystery surrounding Hedin and his deal with Bell creates anticipation for future episodes. We will probably see more of Hedin and his deal with Bell.
Syr’s desire to get freed from Goddesshood will also be a central plot point that will be further explored in the coming storyline. Moreover, there is a chance that Ryu might also confront her own feelings for Bell and come to a realization. It would be interesting to see what would happen between her and Syr if Ryu decides to act on her feelings.
3. Recap of Episode 1
Danmachi season 5 episode 1, titled “Syr,” opens with Syr wondering whether she has fallen in love with Bell. The focus shifts to Goddess Hestia in the mansion, who declares that both Liliruca and Haruhime have leveled up. Although Mikoto and Welf did not level up, they received a significant status boost. Bell has also become worthy of ranking up. Yet, Hestia refuses to let him since she feels it’s too early for the boy to Level Up again. The members of Hestia Familia and other individuals celebrate their miraculous emergence from the depths of the dungeon at Mama Mia’s tavern.
In the meantime, Syr asks Bell whether something has happened between him and Ryu, as the elven girl has been purposely avoiding him. Bell attempts to engage Ryu in conversation outside the tavern. However, the girl feels embarrassed and ends up knocking him out with a punch. She immediately feels remorse for her actions and waits for Bell to wake up. Ryu eventually admits to Bell and apologizes for struggling to make eye contact with him. Interestingly, Syr notices the duo from above the tavern.
The following day, Syr finally inquires Ryu about her feelings for Bell. However, before Ryu can respond, Sye confesses her romantic interest in him and her desire to invite him on a date at the Goddess Festival. However, Syr wants Ryu’s permission to ensure her feelings don’t ruin their friendship. The elven girl accepts it, albeit with some difficulty, since she owes her life to Syr.
Then, Horn, part of the Freya Familia, brings a letter to Hestia Mansion. It appears that Syr has written a love letter to Bell, asking him to accompany her to the Goddess Festival. Goddess Hestia discovers Syr’s love letter to Bell and believes her worst fears have been realized. However, besides the letter’s message, Bell is more interested in the reason a member of the Freya Familia brought it.
Haruhime theorizes that Syr may belong to the Freya Familia, but Welf questions this, as he doesn’t believe Syr has ever been marked with a Farna. Mikoto draws comparisons between Syr and Haruhime, who is a non-combatant in the Familia. Even though they have different views, they all agree that it is weird for a personal assistant of Goddess Freya to bring a letter.
Meanwhile, Ottar holds a meeting with the other members of the Freya Familia, such as Hedin, Hogin, and the Gulliver brothers, discussing their patron, Syr’s decision to go on a date with Bell. He wonders how they should split their forces, and eventually, Allen decides to be Syr’s bodyguard.
As Bell makes his way to the tavern to discuss the letter’s content with Syr, he is unexpectedly attacked by an elf. Despite Bell’s impressive close-range combat skills, the elf’s abilities push him to the brink. As the elf reveals himself, Bell recognizes him as Hedin Selland. Hedin informs Bell that he intends to take him with him.
Afterward, in Danmachi season 5, episode 1, the spotlight turns to Syr as she encounters Goddess Freya and seeks her approval to go on a date with Bell. She is curious to know if she can be released from the burdens of being a Goddess. Therefore, she wants to dive in and follow her instincts. Freya agrees on one condition: If Bell discovers Syr’s true identity, she will be forbidden from seeing him again. Syr accepts this high-stakes deal, knowing that the consequences could be severe.

The story follows the exploits of Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old solo adventurer under the Goddess Hestia. As the only member of the Hestia Familia, he works hard every day in the dungeon to make ends meet while seeking to improve himself.
He looks up to Ais Wallenstein, a famous and powerful swordswoman who once saved his life and fell in love with him.
