DanMachi, also known as ‘Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a Dungeon’, is an adventure fantasy anime series which is quite popular among fans. One thing that makes the show interesting is that it doesn’t have a particular genre and is a mix of romance, comedy, action, and adventure.
Season 2 of the series recently got wrapped up in September 2019, and fans were eagerly waiting for the next season. They all went over the moon when JC Staff announced that Season 3 isn’t far away, but unfortunately, they have to delay the broadcast due to the spread of coronavirus.

2. Theory Section
As disheartened the fans might be right now, the safety of the cast and staff is dire in these kinds of situations. Thankfully, the wait won’t feel like an eternity because of the OVA, which was released back in January 2020. It’s a short battle guys, we can endure it.
I. Financial Standings
Japanese general hybrid bookstore ‘Honto,’ for its fiscal year 2019, announced the sales ranking for light novel series that turned into anime series, and ‘DanMachi’ secured the first spot there. The popular light novel series has also sold more than 12 million copies, and that’s a remarkable achievement.
The light novel ranked at #4 in 2014 in Takarajimasha’s annual light novel guide book ‘Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi.’
II. Animation Quality
Talking about the animation, the artwork quality is decent to look at, sometimes hazy. There are times when the animation might seem rushed and even sloppy, but overall it’s vibrant and soothing to look at. Good one, JC Staff.
III. Fujino Omori’s Health
Fujino Omori is an exceptional writer. He can be overzealous with details when describing everyday scenes.
The new volumes of LN have been releasing at regular intervals, and Fujino Omori is all fit and fine. There’s no health problem as of now.
3. Production Update
Although the national state of emergency has been lifted from Japan, the matter of Covid-19 doesn’t get less dangerous.
JC Staff is just concerned about its employees. The third installment is slated to release sometime in October 2020.
4. Key Visual
Here, we can see the first meeting of Bell and the new monster Wiene who came from a dungeon. All I can say is that this season will be better than the previous one.
A new character is introduced in the trailer, her name is Wiene, and her character is inspired by the Greek God of War, fascinating enough?
“A Xenos girl is born in the dungeon.”
Their encounter causes something to happen, which is deemed as ‘irregular,’ and that’s probably some malicious thing.
6. Expected Storyline
After a slow second season, the third season is expected to pick up the pace and reward its audience for their patience. This season, the story will focus on Bell Cranel’s attempt to stop the citizens of Oraio and God Ares’ army from going on a war. Subsequently, our protagonist’s love life will also take some significant twists and turns.
Dix Peridix, the new villain, will be introduced alongside the monster girl, Wiene, who was born out of a dungeon.
7. Fandom’s Response
The first season was well animated, and the story was, for the most part, faithfully adapted, leaving some of the plots aside. Nonetheless, it gained quite a reputation and was well received by its audience.
It was the second season that got mixed reviews, the beginning of a downfall. The animation got sloppy, and the artwork wasn’t much pleasure to look at. Furthermore, the pacing of the story seemed to be off the rail and was quite monotonous too.
The fans expect the new season to be more action-packed than the previous one.
8. Cast and Staff
There are some new additions to the cast of DanMachi, but most of the staff remains the same:
- Director – Hideki Tachibana
- Series Composition – Hideki Shirane
- Character Design – Shigeki Kimoto
- Music – Keiji Inai
- Studio – JC Staff
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Bell Cranel
- Inori Minase as Hestia
- Rina Hidaka as Wiene
- Yoko Hikasa as Freya
- Saori Oonishi as Ais Wallenstein
