Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe played The Boy Who Lived for his longest film tenure and has given the funniest reason for doing so.
Daniel Radcliffe played the titular character in the Harry Potter film series, based on J.K. Rowling’s books of the same name, for a long time, ten years to be exact. He was cast as Harry Potter at the young age of 12 and then went on to play the role for eight movies till the age of 22.
Radcliffe has been in many projects since the end of the Harry Potter film series, some of the recent ones including Swiss Army Man, Miracle Workers, Guns Akimbo, and The Lost City being the most recent.
When the actor talked about his career, Harry Potter in particular, in A24’s podcast, Radcliffe gave the listeners a hilarious reason for having played the beloved character for a decade.
My mom and dad asked me between every film, basically, ‘Are you still enjoying it, and do you want to go back?’ I was always like, ‘Yes. I hate school.’
The Harry Potter films, from Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001 to Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011, are some of the most famous films and the fourth highest-grossing film series ever. The series has led to three spinoffs, and collectively, the 11 films make up the Wizarding World Franchise. With one of the biggest fandoms, the franchise has inspired restaurants, amusement parks, a spinoff play, and merchandise.
Daniel Radcliffe recently came back for Harry Potter’s 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, a reunion special to celebrate 20 years of the franchise.
Radcliffe was joined by many of his co-stars, including Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), and Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort).
