2. Episode 3 Speculation
Episode 2 exceptionally fleshed out Yamada’s character. Delving into Yamada’s past failures and how her family treated her during those times allows viewers to empathize with her. We get to see that, in reality, Yamada is not that always cheerful girl. If she is with the right person, she opens up to be much more vulnerable. It was also nice to see Ichikawa taking the initiative this time and consoling Yamada.
Near the end of the episode, Yamada talks about how Ichikawa is actually growing up. She seemed really excited about this and went as far as to whisper to him and ask him to call her name a lot. The bond between them is now stronger than ever, and there are no signs of any bad stuff happening anytime soon. So, we can expect the next episode to be another warm and happy story for these two.
3. Recap of Episode 2
Yamada invited Ichikawa to her home after he got drenched in snow. Once they reach there, she heats up the water for him. The thought of bathing at Yamada’s house made Ichikawa nervous. While he was in the bath, Yamada took his wet clothes and left a change for him.
After getting out of the bath, Ichikawa is taken aback, seeing that Yamada left her own clothes as a change. Even worse, she also put his underwear in the bag. Now, he has no choice but to wear the clothes directly and run out to get his underwear.
Ichikawa faces a major crisis as Yamada’s dog starts pulling his pants down. Luckily, Yamada helps him with this, but they end up hugging each other tightly. The two of them decide to eat hotpot together, and while preparing it, Yamada shows her yearbook to Ichikawa.
While talking about various things, Yamada eventually gets very emotional and starts crying. She tells Ichikawa that since everyone adores her so much, she might not even realize that she is being annoying. For the first time, Ichikawa hugs her on his own as a way of consolation.
Yamada suddenly notices her mom’s text about returning home early. Just before she enters the house, Yamada hides Ichikawa in her room. Once she goes to take a bath, she helps him get away. After getting home, Ichikawa decides to wash her clothes but stops midway since he doesn’t want to use a different brand of detergent.
The next day, he realizes that something is wrong with his voice as he’s unable to speak properly. He meets Yamada at school but doesn’t talk much due to this problem. She gets really worried about this and texts him about this. Later, at the library, Ichikawa tells her about her voice changing, and Yamada gets excited, saying this is proof that Ichikawa is growing up.
Yamada observes Ichikawa’s arms and informs him that his other arm is getting bigger. Ichikawa’s surprised he didn’t notice his growth himself. Ichikawa notices Yamada’s undergoing her developments, resulting in another amusing yet risqué moment between the two. The episode closes with Ichikawa’s imaginary acquaintance cheering Ichikawa on from behind a bookshelf.
