2. Recap of Episode 4 of Dandadan
Episode four of Dandandan, titled “Kicking Turbo Granny’s Ass,” dives right into the action as Momo and Okarun return to Turbo Granny’s haunted tunnel, psyching each other up (and bickering) about who should enter first. Once inside, things get creepy fast—Turbo Granny’s giant, unsettling head blocks their way, trapping them. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she removes her curse, leaving Okarun powerless. But Okarun thinks fast, letting Turbo Granny possess him again so that Momo can lock her down with her powers, finally gaining a bit of control over the situation.
Turbo Granny isn’t one to be taken down easily, though. She calls for backup, summoning the “location-bound spirit,” which, naturally, appears as a giant angry crab. Okarun and Momo take off at top speed, using one of Okarun’s all-out bursts to escape through the city as the crab scuttles after them in hot pursuit. They barely get a breather as they dash into a nearby bathhouse, where Momo pulls a clever trick, using her powers to burst hot water pipes and boil the crab. The crab is momentarily restrained but soon bursts back onto the scene, even more steamed than before.
The escape quickly turns chaotic as Turbo Granny ups the difficulty by possessing a mob of people, forming a zombie-like horde to corner Momo and Okarun. With no other choice, Okarun uses his second burst to break through the mob. Just when things look grim, Momo has a crazy idea—she grabs a moving train, leading Turbo Granny and the crab along for the ride, like some bizarre ghost-crab subway adventure.
Turns out, Momo and her grandmother had this whole plan mapped out. As the train crosses the city border, a series of protective wards they set up exorcise Turbo Granny and the crab spirit in a flash of blue light, finally freeing Okarun from the elderly ghost’s relentless curse.
Their victory is satisfying but also strangely bittersweet. As the spirits vanish, Momo catches a glimpse of ghostly figures—young girls who had once lost their lives in the tunnel. Later, she and Okarun, along with her grandmother, return to the tunnel to pay respects. Momo’s grandmother shares a tragic story about the girls, explaining how Turbo Granny, in her twisted way, may have tried to comfort their restless spirits. It’s a touching (and slightly spooky) moment that leaves Momo with a new understanding of her role as a spirit medium.
The episode wraps up with the trio back at home, where they ironically celebrate their victory with a crab dinner. Momo and her grandmother hilariously squabble over the last pieces of crab, while Okarun, still reeling from the whole experience, can’t bring himself to eat it. As they say their goodnights, Momo’s parting words—“See you tomorrow”—leave Okarun smiling, knowing that their adventure (and their friendship) is far from over.
3. Speculation of Episode 5 of Dandadan
In Dandadan episode 5, we’ll likely catch up with Okarun and Momo navigating a whole new dynamic between them at school, fresh off their victory over Turbo Granny and the crab spirit. Since their friendship is just beginning, there’s bound to be a bit of awkwardness—especially with Okarun’s classmates giving him a hard time and Momo’s gang of gyaru friends possibly dicey over this new budding bond.
Chances are, they won’t get too comfortable before another supernatural twist comes knocking. With aliens and one supercharged ghost already in their past, it feels like they’re due for a new spirit encounter on school grounds. This could even be where we meet other potential allies (debatable) who will eventually join the main cast, but at the very least, it’ll give Okarun and Momo more opportunities to grow in both friendship and strength.
Whatever comes next, it’s clear that school life for these two is about to get a lot more complicated—and a whole lot more interesting!
