After Warner Bros. and Discovery merged to make Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio has been making heavy changes in the corporate ladder and the slate of content they produce.
Now, following the appointment of David Zaslav as the new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, we may have another significant change coming at the top level of DC Films.
First came the decision to scrap Batgirl, despite the project having completed filming, among several other projects, due to tax write-offs. Now, it seems like the current head of DC Films, Walter Hamada, will exit the company after Black Adam releases.
Hamada’s exit gives Warner Bros Discovery a chance to reset the brand of DC films. In other words, to hire their own “Kevin Feige” to oversee the DCEU, films, and shows.
According to Deadline, Todd Philips of Joker fame was considered for the job. But the filmmaker’s commitment to the upcoming 2019 film’s sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), has lowered his chances to commit wholeheartedly to DC Films.
The Hollywood Reporter has also shared a few other names that Zaslav had considered for the DC Films head, including Amy Pascal, Emma Watts, Matt Tolmach, Sean Bailey, and Greg Berlanti.
But one name that both news media channels have agreed is the top contender with the highest possibility of being offered the job is Dan Lin, executive producer at It, Lego franchise, Sherlock Holmes, and Aladdin.
If Dan Lin were to be chosen for the position, he would work directly under the WBD CEO Zaslav, heading not only DC Films but also the shows and the future of the DCEU.
Zaslav was also once Lin’s mentor, as the producer is a former WB executive, which makes him even more suitable for the job. But Deadline and THR have also agreed that no official offers have been made yet to Dan Lin by Warner Bros. Discovery.
More news will be available in the upcoming weeks about Zaslav’s final decision to name the head of DC Films. Let’s see if he succeeds in turning DC into a multibillion-dollar media franchise in competition with the MCU.
