Cyberpunk 2077 is a top-rated game, so an anime based on it would naturally garner tons of hype from gamer-otakus. Netflix recognized this potential and grabbed the opportunity to create Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
The company recently listed the anime’s premiere on its platform without an official announcement, putting many in doubt if it was a mistake. However, the confusion has now been cleared.
Through a hair-raising trailer, Netflix has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be out on September 13, 2022.
The company calls it the anime’s NSFW trailer, and rightfully so. It has tons of sexually explicit scenes and loads of violence and bloodshed, too, so watch at your own risk.
Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot, it does give us a taste of how it will be. Instead of fooling us with cool aesthetics, the video goes all out and shows us what fans will be getting themselves into.
Till now, we know that the protagonist David is an edgerunner living in Night City. Edgerunners are mercenary outlaws, also known as cyberpunks, and Night City is a place full of people obsessed with body modifications.
Besides the anime’s theme, the trailer debuts the other main character Lucy, a more experienced edgerunner than David. The video features Lucy as David’s love interest, and the franchise has also revealed a character visual for her.
The trailer and visuals make it very clear that Lucy is a crucial character in the story and might even surprise her with some plot twists. She looks like she’s more than just a love interest, and I’m really curious to see what Lucy brings to the table.
There are two more weeks until we have the anime to binge in one night. Yes, a single night because the show has only ten episodes.
Although, if the show gets popular enough, we might even get another season.
