Fans of Superman & Lois are in for a surprise! The show will have extended episodes plus additional footage of the current season air on the CW app a day after being broadcast. The pilot episode, which recently premiered on the CW, ran for over an hour and a half.
Garnering the biggest premiere with the most viewerships in the network’s history, the pilot was a grand success, and with the free airing of additional content, fans have more to look forward to.
As Deadline reported with the debut of episode 2, all episodes of the show will feature additional footage and scenes, which will be uploaded online and on the CW app. However, the amount of footage uploaded could differ depending on the episodes.
Following the season finale, all episodes of the first season of Superman & Lois will be free and accessible for streaming on the CW app and CWTV.com until a month before the second season’s release, with no subscription necessary.
Streaming online this way ensures the episodes run longer than they do on the network with an hour-long block, which also features commercial breaks for about a quarter of that time. Even though the CW app does feature commercials, the hour-long block’s absence helps the episodes run longer.
Stargirl, which was put through a similar test, premiered its first season on the DC Universe app and added extended episodes. Broadcasting the next day on The CW, the episodes would be cut to fit in with the network’s run-time.
The show follows Superman and Lois moving back to Clark’s hometown of Smallville to raise their teenage twins, Jonathan and Jordan. Adjusting to his life, Superman comes against a new villain identified as The Stranger, while Lois investigates the mystery behind Morgan Edge’s business.
The show, which will go into hiatus for about a month, will be taken up by Supergirl in its place. However, it will be back and running by May with its renewal for a second season!
