Food wars! has been a wildly popular slice-of-life genre anime since its release in April 2015. Featuring cook-offs between students of the best culinary academy in the world, this anime revolves around a young boy named Yukihira Soma.
Crunchyroll released a video via their Youtube Channel on 6th December, a 41-minute long documentary on the making of Food Wars! featuring interviews with the staff of J.C. Staff, the animation house responsible for the show.
The announcement for the production of this video went out during the Anime NYC event in November.
Food Wars is currently in its fourth season titled “The Fourth Plate”. Based on Yuto Tsukuda’s manga, the fourth season has released 5 episodes so far. Yuto Tsukuda also revealed in a recent interview with Shonen Jump that a One Piece x Food Wars crossover anime based off of the one-shot manga is currently in production.

Food Wars! has also released two games in Japan. Shokugeki no Soma: The Dish of Friendship and Bonds, developed by FuRyu, is a visual novel. It was published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Featuring an original story, the game takes place in Europe with the characters in the game voiced by their respective voice actors in the anime.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma is a Japanese shōnen manga series written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. As of April 2019, 34 volumes have been released in Japan. It revolves around a boy Yukihira Soma, a boy who has cooked with his father in their family diner for years. One day his world changes when his father asks him to close the diner and enter the best culinary academy in the world – Totsuki! Thus starts Soma’s quest to learn the true gourmet and surpass his father. His goal, however, becomes a bit difficult when he comes to know his father, Joichiro aka ‘Demon Chef’, was one of the best chefs Totsuki Culinary Academy ever had.
