People are never what they seem. If that was the motive of the USA Network series Dirty John, it could now be changed to ‘Family is never what it seems’.
The third season of the crime anthology series is expected to focus on immediate families and their love gone wrong, like parents, siblings, etc.
While the show has not been officially renewed, showrunner Alexandra Cunningham shared her plans for the next season, if and when it is created.
The show Dirty John has just wrapped its second season, and now let us hear it from show-runner who seems to definitely be looking ahead to season three.
Talking about the future of the USA Network series, Alexandra Cunningham said the following to The Hollywood Reporter:
“… The thing I would love to do, all things being equal, to be the ultimate example of love gone wrong is familial. Not romantic love, not a couple, not a boyfriend-girlfriend like the first season or a married couple divorcing, but mother-child, siblings.”
Dirty John is a true-crime anthology series that explores the theme of love gone wrong, set against the backdrop of sunny Southern California.
In the course of each season, viewers can follow a relationship from a promising beginning to a catastrophic end, raising the question of whether it’s possible to really know someone, even the person one loves most.
Explaining her thoughts further, Cunningham said:
“Especially parentally, I think that’s where love gone wrong truly begins, that the love coming from a parent is not appropriate or twisted or not real, that is obviously one of the things that contribute to people’s future behavior. That’s something I’d love to explore if given the chance.”
Dirty John serves to remind the audience that there are two sides to every story, and people are often not quite as they seem.
Now that would be a whole new level of distrust if one cannot even trust one’s own family, people we don’t even choose for ourselves.
The showrunner also revealed that conversations about season three of Dirty John could start soon.
