Valve released the Limited-Testing for the much-anticipated Counter-Strike 2 on 22nd March 2023. It was met with a great response amidst new features like the much-hyped “sub-tick” architecture.
The game was, however, leaked on torrent just yesterday, as pointed out by sources on Twitter. Even though only offline play was available, it was enough to grab attention as players could experience the smoke dynamics and new revamped lighting and maps.
Renowned data miner @GabeFollower found references in CS2’s code to a host of new weapons, speculations for a possible mobile port, updates that will be included in the future as well as placeholders for new weapons.
This is a sign of high ambition from the developers looking to bring huge updates to the game in the future despite making big changes already. They’re not settling for less.
It is well known that the developer – Valve Corporation tends to be very careful about what they introduce to the core modes. They’re very skeptical of upsetting the scales.
Most of the data mine results are valid for the Danger Zone BattleRoyale /” Sandbox” mode. The first of the observations was the presence of a “tripwire” bomb.
As per the source, it is stated that it will act quite literally as a tripwire, wherein it will activate when a player steps on it. Another addition to the Danger Zone will be the “Bear Trap”.
The next is a weapon called “Pipe”, set to be a melee weapon for Danger Zone. While no visual reference for the same was found in the Datamine, it is speculated that it could be like the pipe bomb from Left4Dead 2.
In addition to this, it has been known for a while that Source 2 is compatible with iOS and Android. The data mine also returned some files with information regarding the same.
Gabefollower also explained that while there might be fears that “other platforms” could refer to the steam deck, it’s highly unlikely as “DXT” compression works on Linux platforms.
One of the best features to come to it is the anti-cheat measure that would cancel the match if a cheater were detected. It has been named “VAC Live” quite similar to what we have for Valorant.
Another big feature noted is the working proof of new weapons, e.g. the three weapon collections: Counter-Strike, Pop Comic, and Myth & Monsters.
It has also been mentioned that the devs have removed the option to change the hand side. This is probably because shadows and own feet are visible now.
Other notable changes are the presence of the ragdoll interactions and the ability to publish spray paints to the workshop once it’s released.
Gabefollower also mentioned towards the end that all of the information was mined using @thexpaw’s VRF tool for Source 2 Engine.
These are speculative data mines that could change very easily and hence, must be treated as fan service rather than accurate news. However, this gives hope to fans for the brand-new era of Counter-Strike with many promises and aspirations.
