HBO’s Westworld has resumed production once again after filming had to be halted due to positive COVID-19 tests. Season 4 filming is currently underway at the Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, CA.
Now, series’ co-creator Lisa Joy has hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming season, including fun new worlds.
Joy spoke to Deadline ahead of the release of her upcoming directorial debut film Reminiscence on Friday. The co-creator of the HBO series appeared on Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast and, speaking of Season 4, promised,
You’re going to see some new worlds that I think are really fun, and you’re going to see someone who I kidnapped from Reminiscence in a funny way.
These new worlds in Westworld could maybe hint at the Delos robot park rebuilding after it was destroyed in Season 2. With Season 3 primarily focusing on outliers, it would be interesting to see which worlds are built/rebuilt.
Season 2 also gave us the Shogun world theme park and an exotic jungle world. The original Westworld movie featured Roman World and Medieval World, which the series hasn’t explored yet. The Deadline report also mentioned that Chalores and Caleb will have their first encounter in season 4.
The series is based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name. It is set in the near future where the wealthy fulfill their wildest fantasies in expansive theme parks based on the likes of the Wild West and Feudal Japan, with their every whim catered to by android hosts. Things go awry when the hosts start to show signs of sentience and begin to rebel against their masters.
Westworld has no official premiere date as of yet. However, if filming continues without any further delays, Season 4 could release sometime in 2022.
