Disney Animation has revealed the concept art and title design for the studio’s next animated feature, Strange World.
At first glance, the image looks a lot like a cross between an Avatar-esque rose-colored dream world and Newt’s Fantastic Beasts suitcase with strange-looking creatures.
However, in this scenic view, two prominent figures to the right look out-of-place as if they don’t belong there. The older-looking man and a younger boy look stunned as if they have stumbled upon a “strange world” unlike the one they know.
The concept art image reflects the official synopsis’ description of the tale about the Clades, a family of explorers who “journey deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await.”
The title, however, has a different color scheme than the art, with golden-orange hues and an indigo shadow.
Strange World Concept:
Director Don Hall, whose credits include Raya and the Last Dragon, Big Hero 6, and Winnie the Pooh, helms the film, which is currently set for a release around Thanksgiving next year.
Hall revealed old pulp magazines, which were popular from the 1890s to the late 1950s, to have a heavy influence on the animated feature,
I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up. They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for Strange World.
Qui Nguyen (Dispatches from Elsewhere, The Society) will co-direct and write, with Roy Conli (Tangled, Big Hero 6) producing the film.
Just like many others before it, including Frozen, Moana, Coco, and Encanto – Strange World will follow Disney’s traditional route of a release around the Thanksgiving season and will come out on November 23, 2022.
The Walt Disney Animation Studios has an exciting list of titles on its slate for 2022, including Turning Red, Lightyear, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2, among others.

Strange World, formerly titled Searcher Clade, is an upcoming American animated adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The 61st animated feature in the Disney Animated Canon is co-directed by Don Hall with Qui Nguyen, who will also pen the script. No cast details have been revealed as of yet.
