The first season of The Rings of Power is coming to an end. The season 1 finale is all set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 14. Ahead of its release, Prime released a trailer for the season 1 finale at New York Comic-Con.
The Rings of Power is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, based on J.R.R Tolkien’s posthumously published novel, The Silmarillion. The events of the series take place thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The series is set during the Second-Age of Middle-Earth.
The 2 minute-35 seconds-long finale trailer comprises footage from episodes 1-6 for the most part, which serves as a recap of the story in the series so far. The latest episode ended with the eruption of the volcano, Mount Doom, in the Southlands, leading to the creation of Mordor.
The trailer begins with a glimpse of the aftermath of the fateful incident. The newly-created Mordor has now become home to the orcs led by Adar. This means that humans, elves and dwarves alike must unite to figure out how to fight back after their decisive defeat.
The biggest highlight of the recently-released trailer is Sauron’s presence. The trailer finally teases Sauron’s reveal, after the series kept the Dark Lord’s identity under the wraps throughout season 1. In the trailer, we see the Nomad, the Dweller, and the Ascetic speaking to an unknown identity.
“You will be known at last for who you truly are, for you are Lord Sauron.”
The trailer also teases the forging of the titular Rings of Power. There’s a glimpse of the making of “a new kind of power”. Lord Celebrimbor declares that “we are on the cusp of crafting a new kind of power”, during a shot of what appears to be molten Mithril.
The trailer also features glimpses of Galadriel, Prince Durin IV and the Harfoots, emphasizing on their importance in the upcoming finale. There are also numerous shots depicting war and violence. Though much of the footage is from previous episodes, it hints at a much bigger war that awaits everyone on Middle-Earth.
“Mordor will rise, heroes will fall, and all will be revealed.”
It is also clear that finally the elves, the Harfoots, the dwarves and the Númenóreans are forming a solid alliance. It is likely that season 1 will end with revealing Sauron’s identity and the next season will take up from there.
Beyond just the trailer, reports suggest that Fiona Apple will have a song in the finale. Moreover, Felicia Day is all set to host the official podcast of the show on Amazon Music. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Official Podcast will feature exclusive interviews and analysis of the first season from showrunners, JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
The makers have clearly made sure fans have enough behind-the-scenes material to keep themselves occupied. The much-awaited season finale will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 14.
