Abed called it way back in 2010, we just didn’t trust him. Six Seasons and a Movie!
NBC Universal’s Peacock has commissioned a feature film. The series has had a long successful run from 2009 to 2015, and now a new movie will not only revive this beloved “community”, no pun intended, but will also fulfill a promise made a long time ago.
Community was launched in 2009 along with other industry giants like The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, etc. After a linear launch for the first five seasons, Community moved to Yahoo! Screen for its final season.
NBC Universal has asked creator Dan Harmon to make a film called Community: The Movie, which will feature original series stars like Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.
Chevy Chase, who starred in the first four seasons, will not be returning. He left because of his frequent conflicts with Harmon. Yvette Nicole and Donald Glover will also not return, but that is obvious given their exits from the show.
The movie will be written by Harmon and Andrew Guest, while Gary Foster, Russ Krasnoff, and McHale will be the executive producer. The production houses include Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television.
Jason Clodfelter, the Co-President of Sony Pictures Television Studios said, “Community was light years ahead of its time when it premiered on NBC in 2009 and we are thrilled to once again visit the brilliant minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest and this impeccable cast. We are grateful to Peacock, our partners at UTV, and to all the zealous fans who have cherished this iconic show,”
Susan Grover, the Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, remarked that they could keep the promise made to the fans a long time back about ‘six seasons and a movie.’
“‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool NBC comedy,”
The President of Universal Television, Eric Underhill commented, “This franchise is the very definition of Community. We’re excited to bring the band back together and continue the journey of these beloved characters.”
