Fans of Cobra Kai have reason to rejoice – the writers of the show have revealed that the fourth season might not be the last one! According to their plans, there is so much to explore in Daniel and Johnny’s age-old rivalry that four seasons are not enough to do justice to it. What are the writers’ plans?
Cobra Kai is the reboot of the immensely popular Karate Kid film series of 1984. The TV series flips the story from the movies and focuses on Johnny as the protagonist and Daniel as the antagonist. When Johnny reopens the Cobra Kai dojo to teach his asthmatic neighbour, Miguel, how to defend himself against bullies, he reignites his rivalry with Daniel.
The third season of Cobra Kai premiered on January 1st, 2021, on Netflix and was a nostalgia trip for all the fans of the original Karate Kid movies. It brought back several characters from the old days and ended in a massive finale, which set up the fourth season.
During a promotional interview for the third season, writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg opened up about the future of the series and how they think the series will end –
“We have an endgame in our heads. We’ve had one for quite some time, and it’s not in Season 4. It’s well beyond that. In our minds, we have seasons’ worth of story that is necessary to tell before we get to that endgame. That will be a discussion going forward with our new partners at Netflix. Can we write to that endgame? Can we know that it’s coming? That’s not always the case with television and we respect that. For now, we’re continuing to write at the same speed and with the same path that we set out with from the beginning.” (TVLine)
Netflix has been stringent with renewals in the pandemic and has canceled numerous fan-favorite shows. Will the streaming service renew Cobra Kai after the fourth season?
All three seasons of Cobra Kai are available to stream on Netflix.
