On Sunday, September 1, 2024, the official staff held the MF Bunko J Summer School Festival 2024 livestream. During the event, they announced that a fourth season of the Classroom of the Elite anime is in production and will adapt the Year 2 sequel light novels.
While the release date, cast, staff, and the production studio for Classroom of the Elite season 4 are yet to be revealed, the anticipation for this sequel is high. Crunchyroll streamed the previous season globally as it aired in Japan, and fans are eagerly awaiting more news about the upcoming season.
During the event, the staff also unveiled a teaser visual for Classroom of the Elite season 4. The teaser visual released for Classroom of the Elite season 4 features Kiyotaka Ayanokoji in his second year, alongside the intriguing addition of new first-year students in school uniform.
The anime’s third season, which concluded this March, brought a satisfying end to the story of the first year, paving the way for Ayanokoji to embark on his second year. The visual also has a catchphrase in Japanese, which reads as follows when translated into English:
Among them is an assassin from the White Room, who is after Ayanokoji.
Adaptation and Staff
The fourth season will start with the Year 2 (First Semester) arc from Syogo Kinugasa’s Classroom of the Elite: Year 2 sequel light novels, as announced. Put simply, the series will include volumes 1 to 4.5 out of the total 12.5 released volumes.
Interestingly, the staff has kept the sequel’s details under wraps, leaving fans wondering about the cast, main staff, and the production studio.
The first season of the anime debuted in 2017, straying from the original material. Studio Lerche was also involved in the production of the second and third seasons, both of which were announced simultaneously. The release of the third season was pushed back from 2023 to January 2024. It is still uncertain if Studio Lerche, the producer of the previous season, will return for Classroom of the Elite season 4.
What To Expect From Season 4
The anime is adapting Shogo Kinugasa’s novel of the same name, illustrated by Tomose Shunsaku. Manga adaptations of the light novel is also currently ongoing, with Kawaisounako providing the art for Year 1 and Shia Sasane for Year 2.
Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the Classroom of the Elite: Year 2 sequel light novels in English, and it describes the story as follows:
As Ayanokoji and his classmates begin their second year at the Advanced Nurturing High School, they’re greeted by a fresh gauntlet of exams and a fresh batch of rather unique first-year students.
They’ll have to get to know each others quickly, because the first special exam pairs the first-years with the second-years on a written test- with only the second-years facing expulsion if their team performs poorly! Worse yet? It seems one of the new first-years is also from the white room.”
As such, the upcoming season will see if Ayanokoji can avoid expulsion while unraveling the identity of the hidden enemy.
