Irrespective of what goes down in tonight’s Chucky Season 1 finale, the devious doll will return! Chucky has been renewed for Season 2.
Chucky/Child’s Play is the brainchild of Don Mancini, who conceived the first film in 1988. The franchise has gone on to have six sequels, a reboot, video games, short films, comics, and now a TV show on Syfy and USA Network.
Since its debut, the show has enjoyed a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes — the highest of any project within the franchise. Critics have praised it for remaining true to its original campy style of horror while adapting a depth that welcomes in a younger generation of fans.
This is perhaps best evident in its viewership record, as Chucky became both the networks’ second-largest new cable series of 2021 targeted towards the 18-49 demography.
The renewal is indeed good news for creator Mancini, who was worried about his franchise’s fate after director Lars Klevberg attempted a reboot/remake in 2019.
However, the movie did not do well enough to guarantee a legacy of its own. This has allowed Mancini to continue expanding his own lore via the TV series.
One of these moves is through the storyline of Chucky splitting his soul up into many dolls, as it was last seen in Cult of Chucky. The TV series is set to take this forward, as they finally introduce multiple possessed Chucky dolls in tonight’s Season 1 finale.

The TV series is also slowly revealing that one of Chucky’s goals will be to elect a protégé who will carry on his work. Although he tried hard with series protagonist Jake, and later on with Caroline and Lexi, Chucky failed to land a mentee.
That was until Chucky found another target in Junior.
For Mancini, who wants to continue making more Chunky films, the show can provide a fresh storyline and smooth transition if Chucky manages to find a protégé, be it Junior or anyone else. But only time will tell how this will play out.
Fans who’d like to re-watch the entire series as they wait for the next season can do so on Peacock, starting December 1. Chucky Season 2 will air sometime in 2022.
