On October 8, for a few minutes, all the world talked about was Christopher Nolan’s next WWII movie. As per Deadline’s reports, the British-American filmmaker’s latest movie is titled, Oppenheimer.
After Nolan’s last war mega-hit Dunkirk (2017), he’s now back to World War II. Only this time, he’s focusing on ‘The Father of Atomic Bomb’, J. Robert Oppenheimer.
From his few favorite stars he loves working with, Cillian Murphy has been confirmed to play the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The movie’s production is expected to start early next year and is slated for the July 21, 2023 release.
The news comes after people worldwide awaited with bated breath, wondering what the genius filmmaker’s next movie release could be.
Oppenheimer will also be Nolan’s first release after severing his long ties with Warner Bros. and joining Universal.
The company even described the movie as an “epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”
Reportedly, his demands with Universal include a 100-day exclusive theatrical release, $100 million production and marketing budget, and even having complete creative control.
With Nolan’s next movie’s details out, it seems Universal has agreed to two or more of Nolan’s demands. Losing out on Nolan is similar to losing out on a potent audience and, well, a treasure.
The talented filmmaker’s roster includes Tenet, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar and more.
Knowing Nolan, there’s no way he would go for an average production for one of the most anticipated movies. According to Deadline, Oppenheimer will be shot on “a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film for the highest image quality.”

The director will be producing the movie alongside his wife, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment. Murphy was previously rumored to be cast for the director’s movie but now is confirmed. This will also mark him playing the lead role for Nolan’s movie for the first time.
Now that we have a few significant details, others will soon come out gradually once production for Oppenheimer starts in 2022.
