Yuki Suetsugu’s Chihayafuru manga launched in the pages of Be-Love in December 2007 and currently has over 35 volumes. This significant manga managed to inspire two anime series from Madhouse as well. The 3rd season of Chihayafuru started its run on October 22nd, 2019 by debuting on NTV in Japan and we’ve also seen it streaming on Crunchyroll.
Sentai Filmworks has revealed that they’ve picked up the rights to the season 3 of Chihayafuru as well as home video rights. They’ve licensed it for release in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, Central America, and South America.
Sentai Filmworks had licensed and released the first two seasons for home video release as well. The official announcement regarding the new acquisition of season 3 can be found on their website.
There is a sense of nostalgia about the return of Chihayafuru. Fans would love to see the beautifully stitched story of friendship, love and competition again and find out who Chihaya ends up with.

Chihayafuru is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu. Chihaya Ayase is a schoolgirl who has spent most of her life supporting her sister’s modelling career. However, that changes when she meets a talented Karuta player, a boy named Arata Wataya. Arata believes that Chihaya has the potential to become a great Karuta player. As Chihaya takes on a new dream of becoming Japan’s best Karuta player, she is soon separated from her Karuta playing friends as they grow up. Chihaya now strives to become the best Karuta player in the world and to one day be with Arata again.
